Depths at Excelsior? - peace123 - 03-15-2010 Ms degree was a BSLS and I got 3 UL credits for Aleks Introduction to Statistics. As far as the other ALEKS math, I'm assuming they don't take the basic math, etc. Would they take these: They do take those as lower level credits. I have credit for Trig, and my Int Alg was a dupe of the College Math CLEP. And as Peace said, all three Stats from ALEKs will give UL credit. But of course, you can only get credit for 1, because they duplicate. Depths at Excelsior? - NAP - 03-16-2010 Peace123 - 9UL credits in one depth, that's cool! ------ Let's look at the possibility of a depth in Computers. It would count as Applied Professional. DSST Intro to Computing CLEP Information Systems & Computer Applications DSST Management Information Systems UL Would these work? What could be added for 3 more credits? (A computer certification or course might be needed to complete this.) [Update: Yes, these 3 exams would count toward a depth in Computer Information Science. Just need 3 more credits in a related field.] Any more depth ideas would be appreciated! Depths at Excelsior? - NAP - 03-17-2010 Also wanted to add: Since there are so many ways to create a depth, don't just copy these ideas. Be sure to look through the Liberal Arts Catalog and the Student Guide to Credit by Exam from the Excelsior College website. Finding topics that interest you will make it much easier when studying a subject for the equivalent of 4 courses worth of exams. Depths at Excelsior? - Fo2mne - 03-19-2010 I saw in the EC catalog that you could double major. Can you do this just by having 30 credits ( with proper ul's ) in two areas? I ask because I want to major in history but I was thinking of taking the psychology GRE to knock out a bunch of credits. With luck (and lots of hard studying) I could have all or nearly all of the credits for a second major. I thought there was a policy listed for this, but I can't find it right now. Does anyone know where it is? I am interested in having the information about this, too. Thanks for your help! Depths at Excelsior? - NAP - 07-30-2010 I added some information to my previous posts about history and computing depths. The big news is about math. Statistics does count as math, but it does not count toward the 3 courses below calculus policy. Statistics through ALEKS counts as upper-level credit, and can be used to fulfill a depth in math. College Math CLEP (6 credits) counts as 2 courses below the level of Calculus. This means that three levels of math through ALEKS (9 LL credits) plus Statistics through ALEKS (3 UL credits) would be the least expensive way to complete an entire depth in Math. Please add more depth ideas, if you have any. Depths at Excelsior? - TMW2010 - 07-30-2010 NAP Wrote:Statistics does count as math, but it does not count toward the 3 courses below calculus policy. They've used my Stats as one of my 3 math courses (along with CLEP College Math, & ALEKs Trig) and didn't credit me for any of my other ALEKs courses due to duplication/filling the three classes. **And that's still the case as of the latest updated Eval Summary that I have on 7/16** |
