Great job Erie! I will be happy to report back once I take the Statistics exam. I have been itching to knock out more courses this month. I just wanted to make sure I nailed down the Strategic Management credit for TESU. After statistics I am looking forward to knocking out the Finance courses.

Awesome job on International Finance! I just took it tonight and feel good about it. Maybe not "A" good about, but I would guess a solid B. Smile I had similar sentiments on the Corporate Finance. I planned to take it after Intro to Finance but freaked when I saw the practice problems. I actually ordered the book (my first ever book purchase!) and switched to studying for International Finance while waiting for delivery. I need Corporate Finance, and I am not sure if it is offered anywhere else. I am interested to hear if it is as brutal as the practice questions.

This $99 deal is awesome. It made me realize how capable I am of learning under a deadline. I just wish I had more time to dedicate to testing!

I scored my first A on a Davar exam. I scored 90 on FIN-310/International Finance. I have to say that this is pretty impressive on Davar's part. I am a good test-taker. I used to score in the upper 90s in percentiles on basic skills tests in grade school. I had a 33 on the ACT. These are legitimate tests.

My plan was to finish up with the FIN-401/Corporate Finance exam, but this one seems to be very difficult. There are a lot of formulas to memorize on the powerpoint. I will need some time to study for the test. So, I still had the evening last night and I decided to review the Davar exams that I had not taken to see if there was something that I had overlooked. On a whim, I decided to take the ACCT-301 test. This should transfer as an introductory financial accounting class at TESU. I already have this one, but I took it at a community college and my class was four credits. I decided to see how it would transfer, so I took the test. This is an introductory financial accounting test. I know that there was a question on this board about whether there are calculations on the Davar accounting exams. Well, there are. About ten of the multiple choice questions on this exam required calculations. About three of the essays required calculation. It wasn't impossible, but I did have to think a little bit. I think that they were in line with the kind of calculations you would need to do in an accounting job. A multiple choice test can't replicate working a spreadsheet, but this wasn't too bad. I ended up scoring an 86 on this exam.

In a fit of lunacy, I also tried the MAT-201/College Algebra test. I already have all of the non-statistics ALEKS classes, so this was really not necessary on my part. The slideshow is, unbelievably, about 486 slides long. I took a look and said to myself, "Hell, no" and just decided to take the exam cold. Well, it is a legitimate college algebra exam. It is only 34 questions long. This is NOT an advantage. I completed the first six questions and then hit some difficult ones and just decided to eyeball the answers to see if I could just finesse my way through. I just really wasn't into it, so I started to narrow possibilities and guess. Unlike other Davar exams, this one has zero essays. Again, this is not a good thing. This actually kind of surprised me because I remember that the MAT-202 exam did have ten essay questions. That made me laugh. Again, this is a legitimate algebra exam. This one has immediate scoring and I failed with a 16 out of 34 with a 47%. This was my second Davar fail.

After that experience, I have absolved myself of any desire to take the statistics exam. My guess is that it will be similar and I have better things to do with the time.

One more exam is left for me. FIN-401. Maybe tomorrow?

You've made great use of your time. I guess I've given up 12+ Davar credits because of wanting to do Diff Eq, which is hard for me.

With most of your comments, you make them look easy Smile But it seems to be a lot of test taking skill and prior knowledge too. I was glad you have posted about difficulties too.

I agree with that comment, I mean both eriehiker and gator9595 are lighting those exams on fire...
I noticed their "completed" list has grown in just a week or so of testing, amazing really! Good job you two!

There are two strategies which might be helpful on these tests. I have taken most of these tests at night. They take about two hours. The essays come last. I always found that I became tired by the last two or three essay questions. If one of those last three required calculations, I wouldn't be able to think as clearly on them. So it might be a good idea to look ahead and pick the more difficult ones to get out of the way early in the testing period. Also, the multiple choice section of the tests are often word for word excerpts from the powerpoints. There are times when the essays ask for items that have been mentioned previously on the test. It might be a good idea to have a scratch pad for notes on tests that allow it so that notes can be taken during the MC section for use on the essays. This would probably make it even more useful to read the essays first so that the notes are relevant to the essays.

I wish Davar would clearly list their rules in one place on their website. There is no FAQ, Testing Guidelines, or anything similar.

Apparently you can use a scratch sheet and calculator for ALL math and finance courses, but I had to email to ask after looking through a few courses syllables and not seeing that information anywhere. I followed up to ask whether we could include notes like formulas etc on the paper, hopefully I receive a response. ( Only 1 of the 3 emails I've sent them have ever received a response.)

I also think the "standard waiting period" after a failed exam should be somewhere visible on their site as well. I looked and couldn't find that information at all. Someone here posted that the wait is two months, but that should be posted on their site or in their course material.

ETA: Scratch paper must be blank according to the email response.

I was able to take the Statistics test tonight. I would not recommend it for those just using the PDF they provide. Like most Davar tests there are some easy MC questions that come from the PDF. I feel like I should have put more time in studying. I have no back ground in statistics so with some back ground and the PDF may be enough to pass for others. So in the spirit of Erie I will be happy to post my score regardless of what is. Now on to some Finance courses! Good luck all!

I did see the waiting period on their site, but I couldn't find it when I looked again. Hopefully they did not remove it. I think it's just in harder to find place.
