OD doesn't make money from the $9 you pay the proctoring service to take the final.

@armstrongsubero In this theory they would make money by sharing your data with universities who would then try to recruit you. You'd obviously be less likely to attend one of those schools since you don't live in the US

Thats so silly, why would I take alternative credits if I dont plan on attending a US school? No where else will take them. Some schools in the US dont even take alternative credits, muchless for international ones.

If I'm taking credits at OD, theres a strong chance I intend to use them at a US university...regardless of where I reside.

But many schools who they do business with may not even have all-online programs. Just because you plan on attending a US school doesn't mean that every US school will consider you a prospective student

Seeing as we're just speculating at this point on OD's intentions; I believe that since they are still very new, they are basically just limiting their market initially, but will expand in the future as their resources allow.

@mysonx3 Well then sell my data to the schools that do have online programs, its not hard to do. What is stopping them from selling my data to only the online schools? The schools they list all have online programs.

Its just discrimination. Thats all it is.

I doubt it is intentional discrimination. There may also be factors we don't know about. Perhaps they get funding that is U.S. specific. There are a number of programs out there, education and otherwise, that are geographically or nationally focused.

In any case, I believe they are working on expanding their program to support non-U.S. students, it may just take some time.

But you can understand why having a limit on who they can sell your data to would make that data less valuable though, yes?

Only if you insist on using really broad definition of discrimination. Their own FAQ says:
Quote: What If I’m an International Student Outside of the United States?

Sorry, we’re not yet able to accept international students living outside of the United States.  Currently, OnlineDegree.com is available to U.S. citizens (living in or outside of the U.S.), or international students living within the United States.
We’re working on it, and we’ll update the site soon when things have changed.

They obviously have their reasons why they started with US only, and claim to be working on international access. Considering it's brand new (three months?), and a FREE service, it's not really fair to accuse them of malicious motives. If we get a year or so farther on and they still haven't done it, then maybe it would make more sense to be so annoyed.

P.S. I would suggest writing to someone in management there, asking about their plans and offering to be a "beta tester" for international student access. Worst that can happen is that they turn you down.
