P90X, Insanity, or a hybrid schedule of both workout programs? - OE800_85 - 07-20-2011

By the way, how are you gonna carry a pullup bar in your suitcase? It might be pretty big, and there's assembly required, different hotels will have different doorframes and all that...I did the fit test for Insanity and halfway through I almost passed out and puked...does that mean i'm not fit?

ryoder Wrote:CLEP101 - no I don't watch MMA. Can't get into it. I have belts in both TKD and Karate so I like martial arts but just can't get into MMA.

Well my friend, I have no choice but to watch. I busted my back jumping out of airplanes so I can't do all those crazy moves anymore. I also just workout to my limits making sure I don't hurt my back anymore. But I have to keep it strong somehow.
When ever there's a crazy exercise I have to do with P90X that might mess up my back, I substitute it with something else. But so far so good, Lbs are coming off.

CLEP101 - My best friend was in the 82nd for 3 years with a herniated disc from wrestling! He had an MRI and the doctor was shocked he could run let alone do jumps. Some days it was excruciating for him. He is now a physical therapist and an amateur bodybuilder so he has learned to rehab that back and keep it from becoming a problem without surgery. He also likes MMA. I guess it is a little too violent for me. I like sparring and boxing for real but nobody gets hurt doing that. Well, not hurt badly Smile

burbuja - you will never become a bodybuilding chic. You need steroids for that.
But by following bodybuilding principles and diet you can move closer to becoming a Victoria's Secret type of body.
I have seen women in their 50s with low body fat, high muscle tone and well sculpted abs so its only a matter of putting in the time, work and diet. Age is no excuse although a lot of us 30somethings like to think it is.

There are different workout DVD's for P90X and you don't need to have a doorframe for all of them. Like I said, I haven't bought the pull-up bar yet as I'm still doing the modified pull-up exercises with the bands. Bands fit neatly and easily into my suitcase - even my carry-on! I'm sure Insanity is difficult as well, but for now I want to stick to P90X.... I really need to get better muscles!

@Ryoder - I totally agree with you! I have also had people tell me not to worry about my figure because I have had four kids (I have five, but one of them is my step-daughter) and therefore it's ok to relax and gain weight. LOL..yes it does make it A LOT tougher, but it's still no excuse! Wink

Ahh yes, those were the good old days, I did the 82nd Airborne thing from 1996-2003. 7 years of jumping out of planes. I got hurt in 1998 and kept on jumping, and running, and all that other crazy stuff we did there. That's probably why I feel it now.

Those are two mutually exclusive activities I am afraid! If you haven't done weight training in a long time, then you will experience both of those for a short time and then plateau. Its normal. It is very hard to build muscle beyond your natural size. It is much easier to lose bodyfat and get toned. Thats why there are not a million elite bodybuilders but there are millions of people with a six pack Smile

I started the Insanity tapes 2 months ago and felt like a senior citizen, but figured I wasn't trying to get a t-shirt or a 6-pack so I was free to take baby steps and inch forward. My goal was to strengthen my core. Initially, I was inconsistent, but I saw improvement with even modest efforts and that was exciting. Now I am obsessed! HaHa! I focus on my vitamins, oils, greenfood and protein intake. Insanity is insane and I love it! :hurray:
