RE: Spring 1 Session 2 -- What is YOURPace? - wildebeest - 03-20-2022 Finished HUM 103 earlier this week, which was the only general education course I needed. Only have the final left on a second class, and it's a paper rather than a PowerPoint, so that should be pretty smooth sailing. After that's done, I have only a 6-credit independent study to complete to be finished. I've been doing research on that for a couple weeks, since I knew the subject and what material I needed, but will do another week or two of research and then get to work on a 5,000 word project. When that's done, I'll technically be finished (that is, all degree requirements will be fulfilled), but if I have time afterwards, I may add a class or two for fun. Now that I'm not feeling the pressure I did last session, self-imposed, apparently, since I'll probably be done with time to kill this session, I'm enjoying myself much more. (or is this not at UMPI?) Is it less work than the classes? Which degree are you going for? Professor Sebold received a grant for a project that involves writing local histories that will be used by junior high school teachers. I am researching and writing a 5,000-word piece that will be part of the project. I don't think that it's less work than a standard course, and certainly not less work than the easier courses (I've already read a couple books and dozens of newspaper articles as research, plus searched a lot of public records), but it's more fun, in that it involves primary-source research and the puzzle aspect of putting together a story from multiple, sometimes contradictory, pieces.(03-20-2022, 07:42 AM)wildebeest Wrote: Finished HUM 103 earlier this week, which was the only general education course I needed. That sounds pretty cool! Will you be credited in the project? This could be your first published piece! RE: Spring 1 Session 2 -- What is YOURPace? - wildebeest - 03-22-2022 Yes, the other pieces I've read have been bylined. It'll be great to have a credited work of original historical research to point to. When I inquired about it, the professor said that it requires the completion of a project outside of the platform at work or in the community. It sounded like it could be a more long-form course, especially if you have not already completed a project that applies to the course. I really don't think there is enough time left in the session for it. I completed BUS400 in 4 days and BUS401 in 2 days. You don't need to use a project you're currently involved in. You create a project plan using the template you create in BUS141. It's not a long course at all. Any project can be used.
