I am scheduled for Humanities and English CLEP in two weeks. I have the books, CDROM's, and this site. Do you think I have a chance in passing?

Thanks! And wish me luck!

If you are good at taking tests and you study you should have no problems. Use IC and the Peterson's tests as well...

Good luck!

Yes, here are a couple of additional resources:

The video series Art of the Western World is free and makes a change from reading and practicing testing:

Art of the Western World

Summaries of Shakespeare here:

One page summaries of Shakespeare

Also, read the specific exam feedback. As most others who are new to art and literature, I had no idea where I was with Humanities until the score came up Smile

Good luck

I am reviewing the CDROM's from the lib, going over the flash cards here, and looking at other peoples feedback. So far the English one doesn't look so bad. This humanities one is KILLING ME! Everytime i take a mock test, I feel like an idiotSad Also, with a full time job, a side biz, and a family, finding time to study is the most challenging thing by far.

I have been taking a clep a week since the start of July. You'll be fine!

What you know before beginning to prepare is important to planning your preparation.

I could probably pass English with no study, but I would give it 2 weeks because I like getting high scores. Others would need longer, or might even be better off taking the class.

Humanities I have not taken (took equivalent classes years ago) but it has a reputation for being broad, not deep. If that is true in the same way that Natural Science (which I have taken) is broad but not deep, Humanities and two weeks study would work if you can draw on a lifetime of "appreciating that kind of stuff" and test prep is really about practice for the test. If one is starting at the beginning, a little longer would be good. IMHO.

All great advice! MCCHEF, WOW! A CLEP a week? Good job! i could never do that!

As for humanities, so far I have learned that most of the poetry and art is VERY subjective and I have no interest in it at all. I understand that it is culture but IMHO, most of the art/poetry sucks! If I want to see something truely great that man has created, all I have to do is look at my microwaveSmile It's like making someone who likes country music study RAP music in depth! Hopefully i will pass and not have to sit in a class with a teacher who gets kicks out of breaking down some lame poem until the actual meaning of the poem is completely lost.

Just passed American Government and College Mathematics back to back today. It is doable.

It is very doable. Today I took my fifth and sixth CLEP & DANTES exams THIS WEEK (check out my signature for details). Basically what I did was browse through the 2008 info the military published regarding the percentage of military personnel who took and passed each exam. My logic was this: since people in the military do not pay to take the exams, then the percentages published most likely reflect a greater number of people who took the exams "cold" or with minimal studying, just "for the hell of it" you could say. I made a list of those tests, leaving out the language tests for obvious reasons, and called my local Jr. college to set up a test date for the next day (this was last Monday). I read the specific feedback for the A&I Literature exam on this forum and went in Tuesday to take the exam without studying any other source. I passed with a 68! My confidence level in my "theory" shot through the roof so I went ahead and signed up for Personal Finance on Wednesday, both Technical Writing and Environment & Humanity for Thursday, and Substance Abuse & Here's To Your Health for today (Friday). I only studied the afternoon/night before each exam for the most part. I exclusively used instant cert's flashcards and specific feedback forum. No books, no practice tests, nothing. I am now 21 credits ahead of where I stood this past Monday! I am signed up for the Principles of Marketing CLEP this Monday and over this weekend I will review and decide what exams to take after that.
Sorry for the long thread, but I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that studying for and taking/passing multiple exams in the same month, let alone the same week or day is definitely possible. I'm only 28 and if I can do it (I'm pretty much a high school dropout) then ANYONE CAN!!!

I heard eisly college is a great place to enroll and test out quick into a degree. I've been researching alot and this forum is the best info so far. How do I get started. I'd like grab up a degree asap. I leave to boot camp at the end of nov. Army medic. I need a degree to move into officers training so I can go to school full time and become a nurse. I have almost 0 credits right now. Making rank means feeding the fam. I'm almost 31 with a beautiful family. The upside is I ran 15mi and did 720 pushups and situps the last 2 days so I'll survive. I'll probable go directly to afgani after training so I have about a year to get it done(college) so I can bring home the bacon. Have a very blessed week. Please teach me the ways of the jedi! I have by fsfa loan stuff completed and it covers books fulltime also. I live in las vegas currently and I've taken 2 classes from south university online in the past.
