Community College FOOLS! - kevinmanemane - 08-18-2010 So here's what i don't understand, How is it possible that a regionally accreditted college like Excelsior will accept Penn Foster's Cost Accounting course as Upper Level (as long as its received from an ACE transcript) towards a bachelor's degree, but my Sacramento community college will not accept the same course even as lower level towards an meesley beginner accounting certificate? I looked into this hardcore and according to HEA Amendment 2007 passed by Congress, any course taken at a nationally accreditted college, as long as it is ACE approved (which PFs Cost Accounting is), it should be just as eligible to transfer as any other regionally accreditted college. I know also that it's always up to the college to accept whatever they want, but my CC specifically states that it will accept up to 15 credits for transfer. So they are capable and willing to transfer credits - thats not the issue. But their email solely stated that they would not accept the credits for transfer, even if it came on an ACE transcript, because it is from an only nationally accreditted college, which HEA Amendment 2007 specifically states community colleges CANNOT do. I told the counselors at the CC this and they completely blew me off and just said, "we dont accept credits from national" I said, "i understand that - did you even listen to what i just said. its a little more complicated than that." "hmph" is what he said. So then i asked, "are you SURE you need a masters to be a counselor there, cause it seems like i know more about subjects like these than you do." hahaha no, i didnt say that. i WANTED to though. Anybody know about this and thinks maybe i have a case here and if i do, do you know where i could start up a fight to perhaps win this thing? I need Cost Accounting as my class before i get my certificate, but they almost NEVER offer the dang class, and when they do, its ALWAYS during my work hours that i simply cannot change. So i HAVE to find another means and Penn Foster looks like the best way. But theyre bein douches about it. Hmph! It's up to the school whether they'll accept credits from any college, even other RA colleges. Community College FOOLS! - kevinmanemane - 08-18-2010 way to kill my hopes and dreams there TMW! hahaha - just kidding. i figured as much. sucks! i still say its discrimination and theyre too lazy to look into it but whatever. Community College FOOLS! - norema - 08-18-2010 You could possibly find the course at another in state college online, and become a transient student with them. Community College FOOLS! - peace123 - 08-18-2010 Does your community college accept CLEP credits. If yes, you could ask them why they will accept CLEP which is ACE reviewed but will not accept the PF Cost Accounting course which is also ACE reviewed. Of course in the end, the receiving school has final say. Peace123 Community College FOOLS! - bawhitsett - 08-18-2010 We must be kindred spirits kevin, at least in relation to our CC careers. Looks like we're racking up a lot of the same credits and credentials... Community College FOOLS! - GoodYellowDogs - 08-18-2010 Try doing a petition for them to accept it. Simple form, goes to the dean or someone for review and approval. Community College FOOLS! - Maniac Craniac - 08-20-2010 I know someone who couldn't get all of his community college credits accepted by a state university (in the same state). Each school has their own policy, set for reasons that are often as mysterious and ambiguous as the writings of Nostradamus. Community College FOOLS! - kevinmanemane - 08-20-2010 for sure! At least nostradamus was right sometimes. Its so dumb. I asked one counselor, "so do you accept transfer credits from an ACE transcript?" "Yes we do" "Okay - so if i did at penn foster but its on the ACE transcript, whats the difference" "well, penn fosters only nationally accredited" "i get that - but because its coming on an ACE transcript, you JUST said you accept ACE credits. Do you mean you only accept SOME ACE transcripts because you wanna know which school they came from" "No - we don't even see the name of where it comes from - it just says it ACE approved so we accept them for credit." "So you WILL accept Penn Foster's Cost Accounting as its on an ACE transcript" "No - cuz its only nationally accredited." ... Are you kidding me? what is this fooLio's deal? i think he's a confused individual. i am gonna talk to the dean about this. Not really for me cuz im not even gonna do the class now cuz im going with TESC and i dont need it - but for future students. these counselors need to get 2010 training and recognize whats going on in the education world. ![]() Community College FOOLS! - perriquit - 08-20-2010 I totally agree with you and I really appreciate that while you are not taking the class, you want to make it better for the students to come. I have a similar issues with Tabor College in Kansas. They said they accepted ACE credit recommendation I don't remember if they said up to 60 or more. The thing is that when they realized that they were Penn Foster they said oh well since they are from Penn Foster we only take 40. I asked them why? well because we take 60 but they have to be from a 4 year degree granting institution. I answered well you know Penn Foster College offers 2 Bachelors degrees so it is a 4 year degree granting institution. They replied oh well but it is Nationally Accredited the ACE transcripts should come fron a 4 year RA institution. I mean... a lot of academic advisers have NO CLUE about what they are doing. How many RA institutions offer ACE approved courses? |
