TESC BALA program - will this work - ryoder - 12-04-2010 Thanks for your attention, this site is great btw ![]() Ok I went to USF in Tampa from 1994-1998 and picked up about 70 or so credits. I also have an MCSE+Internet and and MCSD (microsoft certifications). I have applied to TESC but haven't had a degree audit yet. How does this look for a BALS? Credits English 6cr APC ENC 1101 3 Enc 1102 - Freshman Eng II 3 Hum 12cr Hum 3024 - The Arts - UL 3 Hum 3251 20th century - UL 3 ENC3210 - Tech writing - UL 3 ANT 2000 - Anthropology 3 Soc Sci 12cr Am History I - CLEP 3 AMH 2020 - American History II 3 Micro Economics - CLEP 3 Macroeconomics - CLEP 3 Nat Sci Math 12cr BSC 2035 - Sex and todays world 3 GLY 2100 - History Earth Life 3 Intro Comp Systems - CLEP 3 AP Calc I ?? If it does I'll pick up a CLEP to even it out. How does this look? Is it possible that I will transfer this stuff over to TESC and they will allow me to graduate with no capstone? That would be sweet. TESC BALA program - will this work - skyfall123 - 12-04-2010 I see under you sig that you are planning an Excelsior Business degree or a TESC BALS. Why not get a BSBA Computer Information Systems degree from TESC? You can test out of almost everything. No capstone. Below is what it looks like you have left. Financial Acct CLEP Managerial Acct Straighterline course $99 + $39 Business Law CLEP Principles of Finance DSST Business Ethics DSST (covers Business in Society) Business Policy TECEP ***Late note: I forget Business Communication and Statistics are pre-reqs Statistics DSST Business Communication the NEWLY APPROVED Straighterline ACE Approved course should work $39 if done the same month as Mgr Acct Your MSCE will cover 12 of the CIS electives, so you'd have to take 1) A Programming course 2) Systems Analysis You could take those from Penn Foster (the ACE Approved courses) for under $600 and complete both within a month (easily) Thomas Edison State College | BSBA in Computer Information Systems Credit Distribution or do a BA Natural Science / Mathematics Thomas Edison State College | BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics Credit Distribution TESC BALA program - will this work - ryoder - 12-04-2010 Thanks geezer. I'll look into those options tomorrow. The idea of a biz degree had crossed my mind but the fact that I already seem to have most of the credits for a bals is very appealing. I plan to do a ms in info sec assurance at western governors and then an MBA somewhere too. This testing out is fun! Contests on your sons accomplishments, you should be proud. But, good luck and no matter what you choose, you are VERY CLOSE. Like 1 semester close
TESC BALA program - will this work - Yenisei - 12-05-2010 Why isn't the OP considering a BA in Nat Sci/Mathematics instead of a BALS? TESC BALA program - will this work - ryoder - 12-05-2010 Thanks for comments guys. geezer my mcsd consists of certifications in c++ c# and visual basic. Do those transfer as computer programming? You guys are giving me some food for thought. I have a couple of spreadsheets mapping some tracks out including finishing up at usf so I will add in the mis and nat science options. I didn't realize they even had one. TESC BALA program - will this work - Yenisei - 12-05-2010 You may already have 23 of the 33 credits required for the Nat Sci/Mathematics area of study from the calculus courses, the physics courses and the MIS course, although that can only be answered by an official evaluation. TESC BALA program - will this work - ryoder - 12-05-2010 You guys are right I am very close to a BA in nat science/mathematics. I rearranged my credits on the excel and it seems that I only have 10 math/science credits to pick up to finish this out. That sounds like a better degree for me and I enjoy studying so maybe I'll go with a few cleps and dsst like statistics. Stats is required for a biz degree so I'm already studying it on IC. I plan to do a ms in info sec assurance at western governors and then an MBA somewhere too. Here are a couple of thoughts on which way to go. I strongly encouraged my sons to complete BSBA CIS degrees, because I knew there was no chance either would pursue an MBA. So by finishing a business degree at the undergrad level, they are showing potential employers that they have the business background (to go along with their technical skills) to be considered management candidates. You on the other hand have an MBA planned sometime down the road....and there are scores of MBA programs out there that do not require a business undergrad degree. I agree with Yenisei, with your extensive science/math (pre-engineering) background it would make a lot more sense to get a BA NS / Math since many, many technical Graduate degree programs require an Engineering, Natural Science or Computer Science degree. My oldest son is completing a second degree (BA-Computer Science or BA NS) for this exact reason. His BSBA CIS alone would not cut it for entry into a particular technical Masters program that his current employer may sponsor. In your situation a BALS would not open any additional doors for you. Quote:geezer my mcsd consists of certifications in c++ c# and visual basic. Do those transfer as computer programming? It would certainly seem that you could argue that case. Quote:You guys are right I am very close to a BA in nat science/mathematics. I rearranged my credits on the excel and it seems that I only have 10 math/science credits to pick up to finish this out. Remember that Computer Science credits count toward the BA Natural Science / Math. I don't think anyone currently on the board can tell you exactly what credit TESC will give you for your MSCE + Internet and MCSD, but I think it is safe to say that at least some of the credits could be considered UL. In any case you might already have enough credit in the NS area of study (depending on what they give you for MSCE and MCSD). Filling in the remaining free elective credits is easy..... you could do that using FEMA credits for free. One note: the process that TESC uses to evaluate credits in the Natural Sciences area is computerized and prone to errors. So appealing where credits are placed is a given. Let us know how the MSCE and MCSD credits are initially evaluated and we can help from there. TESC BALA program - will this work - ryoder - 12-05-2010 Geezer thanks for the info and its good advice to get the business background. I have been in this industry since 1998 and programming is slowly becoming commoditized as corps shift some or all development overseas. A strong understanding of the organizations goals, economic climate and regulatory bullshit and how to move the ball is important if you want to stay employed over the next 30-40 years. One of the things about these MBA programs is that they usually require some prereqs like mgmt, accounting, marketing and both economics. I have all but the accounting so I might end up doing that. I'll let you guys know how the certs articulate at TESC. Back to Aleks statistics
