Substance Abuse(formerly Drug & Alcohol Abuse) - David_BSBusiness - 12-09-2010 I just joined the IC forums yesterday and I have only taken a Western Civilization CLEP (passed) and Here's to Your Health DSST (failed, two days ago), and I see the material for Substance abuse is somewhat similar to that which I have studied, so instead of waiting 6mos I am going to study for two more weeks and then take the test. From what I've read if I subscribe ($20/mo ??) I gain access to flash cards and they seem to help everyone on here a lot. The funny thing is I felt better about the Here's to Your Health test than the previous one, and I don't know if it's because it was Dante's that it was that much more difficult or perhaps that I was not prepared enough. Anyways, I am willing to spend the money so long as it will help me. I can devote plenty of time to studying, but are the resource that good here? My method of studying for the previous ones were spending several hours finding resources and then studying, in hopes that what I had found was enough. I apologize in advance if I don't make much sense, but I have been dealing with my fussy 10mo and I have typed this in the time-frame of about an hour and a half. Haha! Thanks for your time and help! Once you subscribe you will have access to the flashcards, but also the specific exam feedback section where you can find study resources that helped other students as well as good advice on what to expect. You will also find the support and knowledge on this forum far exceeds what you can get other places. It is a wonderful place with lots of wonderful people. Welcome and don't be afraid to ask questions. Just be warned we are a motivated group and that motivation is often contagious! Good luck! Substance Abuse(formerly Drug & Alcohol Abuse) - burbuja0512 - 12-09-2010 Hi and welcome! I think that you'll find the IC flashcards really helpful for Substance abuse. I took this and passed using only the flashcards and the specific feedback forum, which I have found to be just as helpful as the flashcards themselves. For my tests so far, my study pattern has looked like this: Use IC, peruse specific feedback forum, go back to flashcards, use wikipedia for any terms I don't know about. My 15 year old son is currently studying for substance abuse and in addition to IC is also utilizing freeclepprep.com, which has a link to free Peterson's practice exams. I hope this helps. I don't know anything about the other site you mentioned, but I can tell you that with dilligence and hard work and IC, you will save a lot of time and money. I have five children (four of my own and a step-child we have 50% of) and work full time.. I study every evening after my two youngest kids are in bed. Probably about 2-3 hours a day. I average about one test a week, though I do allow more for the most difficult ones. Good luck! Substance Abuse(formerly Drug & Alcohol Abuse) - David_BSBusiness - 12-09-2010 Awesome! Thank you so much for your responses! That helps a lot, and yes, the support and friendships do mean much more to me than just a bunch of resources. I only have two tests to take(the other being either Personal Finance or Art of The Western World), but I want to be prepared enough that I pass and I wouldn't mind making some new friends in the process. Sincerely, David Substance Abuse(formerly Drug & Alcohol Abuse) - burbuja0512 - 12-09-2010 The people here are the best! I've gotten so much support and even new ideas about ways to get credit.

Once you have signed into IC, then clicked on Discussion Board, in the upper right hand corner you will see another place where you can sign in with the same information. This time, when you do that, you will see 4 selections instead of 3 - the 4th one is the Specific Exam Forum. Click on that to get into the general area. Now, in the upper right hand area of the forum, you will see a search box to search for a specific forum - this is where you type the name of the test you plan on taking. This will bring up any and all threads where that exam is mentioned, so you will have to search down the list to see the one that matches it specifically but sometimes you can learn some more by going through some of these. It just depends on how much time you have to surf through them. Good luck and welcome to IC! Judy |
