I just paid my $2800 out of state enrolled options fee to TESC a minute ago.
This month I also spent $800 for some PennFoster classes.
This week I'll have two DSSTs, no biggie.
Next week it will be the Business Policy TECEP which is about $450 I think - ugh.
This stuff gets expensive when you near the end. I have been happily plodding along in CLEP,DSST,Aleks and StraighterLine which are all cheap in my opinion.
PennFoster is reasonable but I had to pay for 6 credit hours to get 3 in system analysis and design due to the fact that those courses are only ace approved for 2 and 1 credits.
The good news is that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
I'm mostly done with my CIS major, its all in taking some final tests and filling in some super easy business electives and wrestling with TESC to give me credit for ALEKs Business Stats and to recognize my old MCSE certification.
I'm going to go get a beer now.

The expense hurts, but the end result will be well worth it. You're still coming in waaaaay below what your average college student pays for the same degree.

Studying does get expensive... I think what we all pay is expensive, but realistic. When I read about how much other people pay to get a degree, it blows my mind. We're all so lucky we found out about CLEP options.

Im stuck at my testing center right now. The dsst site isn't responding. The proctor is working with tech support. I really want to finish ethics and miis tonight so tie is a disappointment.

How do CLEP options differ into relation to all the tuition rates? I thought you still had to pay the school's rate. I am wanting to test out of as much as possible.

CLEPS don't have any bearing on enrollment fees or tuition. With the Big Three you pay an enrollment fee which covers one year. You should wait until you have accumulated the majority of your credits (90+ recommended) before enrolling, so that you can complete the degree within the enrollment year.

Great point. It's just that I am not sure *what* I should be clepping out of and just want to make sure that it actually transfers. I guess I am a total newbie. My idea is one of two.....(I have a LPN certificate and completed 30 credits within that program and I have an additional 32 credits of community college, but 6 are physical education related). If the time between a Bachelors of Arts and Bachelors of Science (or credits) doesn't exceed 3-4months and/or 30+ credits, I will almost definitely go for my Bachelors of Science. After that is determined, I just have to figure out if TESC actually offers a major and whether or not it appears on my diploma, as I realize COSC does not. Not a big deal, but weighing out that and the costs.
I'm trying to keep this goal of mine (earning a Bachelors) something that I can complete in 6-10 months and without spending more than $3,500, because I just really cannot afford more than that, unless it means having some fanchy schmancy major listed on my diploma, it would all be the same to me. I'm currently enrolled online at my community college and it's less than $50 a CREDIT to complete courses this way. Once you figure in books and fees each 3-credit course should not cost more than $175 each. There's ONLY the time factor, as semesters range from 8 to 16 weeks and from what I know, you can test out of subjects much quicker than that. I'm just not sure how much each test costs and what all these different tests are. I guess I will learn more the longer I am on this forum. I feel like a baby chick right now lol.

When I was looking for a University, I checked the local ones and submitted my transcripts. There were several did not give 6 units for the English or the biology or did not accept all of the classes I had taken. I found one online that accepted my CLEPs and all of the classes I had taken to date. So that is the one I chose. If you check out Collegeboard.com it will tell you which colleges accept CLEPs and the credits given so you can contact them further if you are interested in what they have to offer. You can always ask the counselor which degree you are closest to completing. As far as the testing fees, my local testing site charges $130 for Dantes and $122 for CLEP for non-students. It does help..and how much would you say, average, you spend on testing material for each test/subject? If I am correct, once you clep out, you submit that to the school you're going to and it's put on your transcript right? Which in essence, would help ya get one step closer to your degree
