Perform the math in the order what I call PEMA:

1) P = whatever's in the parenthesis first
2) E = exponents
3) M = math or division
4) A = addition or subtraction

As taught by my math teacher memorize "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally". Order of operations = parenthesis, exponents, multiplication and division, addition and subtraction.

i was taught BEDMAS (the mass of a bed?)

brackets, exponents, division/multiplication, addition/subtraction

I think once you get into advanced math though this is rarely an issue, people often use brackets to make things clearer.

Ok so, the anser to the problem is as follows
0.1/9.6X0.5/(0.5+24)=0.05/235.2 or 1/4704 I just dont get it

One more hint from the Purple Math tutorial below, "Parentheses outrank exponents, which outrank multiplication and division (but multiplication and division are at the same rank), and these two outrank addition and subtraction (which are together on the bottom rank). When you have a bunch of operations of the same rank, you just operate from left to right. For instance, 15 ÷ 3 × 4 is not 15 ÷ 12, but is rather 5 × 4, because, going from left to right, you get to the division first."

0.1/9.6X0.5/(0.5+24)=0.05/235.2 or 1/4704

(0.5+24) = Answer part 1
Then start from left side to multiply and divide:
0.1/9.6 = Answer part 2
Answer part 2 X0.5 = Answer part 3
Answer part 3 divided by Answer part 1 = Final answer

Here is a tutorial about it:

The Order of Operations: PEMDAS

----------

0.1/9.6X0.5/(0.5+24)=0.05/235.2 or 1/4704

To get to their answers as fractions, it looks like you have to multiply fractions:

Multiply numerator 1 by numerator 2 = .1 x .5
Multiply denominator 1 by denominator 2 = 9.6 x 24.5

This equals 0.05/235.2

To make numerator and denominator whole numbers multiply the answer by 20, which equals 1/4704

I hope this helps!
