My TESC BA NatSci/Math plan - jmed - 02-24-2011
Updated plan (I had a post on a BALS plan under a different forum name a few months ago, got rid of FEMAs and changed to NatSci/Math because I think I can meet the reqs without taking classes)
Any comments/thoughts/guidance much appreciated.
I. General Education Requirements 60
A. English Composition 6
B&M English Composition I; CLEP College Composition
B. Humanities 12
B&M Metaphysics; B&M Comparative Philosophy; CLEP Analyzing & Interpreting Literature
C. Social Sciences 12
B&M Western Civ II; CLEP Intro Psych; CLEP Educational Psych; CLEP Intro Sociology

II. Area of Study: Natural Sciences/Mathematics 33
10 CompSci credits, all 300-400 level, but there's a risk they will try to count the MCITP credits as "Business/Computer Information Systems" instead of CompSci based on ryoder's posts about Network+ - if so, I may need to find another 3 credits upper-level science somewhere (Multivariable Calculus hopefully will count as 300, I read someone in another thread who said it was 300 at TESC)
CompSci: B&M Distributed Computing (3 upper); MCITP EA (4 upper from IT certification); DSST Management Information Systems (3 upper)
18 Math credits, 3-10 are 300-400 level
AP Calclulus BC (8 credits 200-level); B&M Multivariable Calculus (4 200-level at B&M, maybe 300 at TESC?); B&M Decisions Games & Negotiation (3, not sure if upper or lower); B&M Differential Equations with Linear Algebra I (3 upper)
7 Physics credits, 3 300 level
Physics III (3 upper); B&M Physics II (4)
III. Free Electives 27
DSST Fundamentals of Counseling
DSST Personal Finance
DSST Here's To Your Health
MCITP SA (3 credit IT certification)

Decisions Games & Negotiation sounds like Game Theory- is that what the content of the course was? I took Game Theory as an economics course, but was yours taken as an applied math course? It should be UL, the question is whether it's a math course or not.
Physics III may or may not be considered UL if it was General or University Physics.
Multivariable Calculus should be UL at TESC.

You can keep this degree all to yourself. Just looking at all those science and math courses make me want to :puke:

It was a mix of decision theory (math/econ/philosophy) and game theory, and was math prefixed, not econ.
I hope it works out at NatSci/Math, but even if I have to get a Liberal Studies degree, I'm still getting a Computer Science M.S. next, and then a Ph.D., so I guess the undergrad major won't matter too much. NatSci/Math just feels so much nicer than Liberal Studies deep in my bones. Ha.

I'll be clapping from the sidelines. So few here have completed this degree since "the change" in upper level. Upper level used to be defined as 200 or higher, so it wasn't nearly as difficult. Since that changed, this degree is among some of the highest hanging fruit. I'm excited to see how it goes for you. Be sure to keep people posted here, including your sources of credit. That's very helpful to the others behind you!

As of the end of March, I will then have ONE.....FINAL......DAM......SEMESTER left in the NAtural Science and Math degree. Except my concentration is in Biology. Next semester it's one class at TESC and 3 at UC Berkley: Immunology, Biochemistry, Cancer Biology. Then DONE! Still need to pass the Microbiology at EC.

You guys at these 3 online schools are always posting your degree plans... are the classes you're able to take for each degree that flexible?
At my school, after the first 2 years you pretty much have to take what they tell you.

TESC gives you the distribution, but you get to fill it in.
For instance if the distribution says "12 credits in Social Science from 2 areas" then you can choose from any of the hundreds of social science classes- just as long as you pick 2 ares like history and psych, or govt and history, or sociology and anthropology, etc.
