English Composition with or w/out essay? - methibosheth - 02-28-2011 There's been a change made to the CLEP composition exams. On July 1st, 2010, the College Board retired the following composition exams: English Composition, English composition with Essay, and Freshman College Composition. The Board replaced these exams with two new exams: College Composition and College Composition Modular. College Composition contains 50 multiple-choice questions and two mandatory essays. College Composition Modular contains 90 multiple-choice questions and either an essay provided and scored by the student's college, or two essays chosen and scored by CLEP. You can choose to do College Composition modular without an essay, in which case you will be awarded 3 credits instead of six. Otherwise, each of these tests is worth six credits. Hope this Helps

If you take the three credit version of Modular (no essay), you will probably only receive credit for Comp I.
