Financial Institutions and Market TECEP - Kelsey - 03-04-2011
Hello everyone!
I am near completion of my BSBA through TESC. I will need to take Fin-331 Financial Institutions and Market TECEP as one of my last tests before completion. Does anyone have any specific information for this test?
I have taken the Money and Banking DSST, Principles of Finance, and the Macro and Micro Cleps. I was planning on taking the Security Analysis and Portfolio Management TECEP instead, but they said that the content in the Security Analysis TECEP conflicts too much with a Fundamentals of Investments class I took from SNHU. Any information would be much appreciated for this TECEP!
I am no longer subscribed to Instantcert so I was not able to see if there was a specific feedback section for this TECEP. Thanks in advance for any help! ~Kelsey

You should consider taking DSST Money & Banking. Check with your advisor first but I'm pretty sure it pairs Financial Institutions and Markets.
Here is a quote from TESC's credit distribution: "Financial Institutions and Markets (Thomas Edison State College examination) OR Money and Banking (DANTES examination)". This would definitely be faster and cheaper route than the TECEP.

Thanks for the info. but I have already taken the Money and Banking DSST. My advisor said that the Financial Institutions and Markets TECEP would not conflict with already having taken the Money and Banking DSST!

I will check again about the Money and Banking DSST counting for credit while also taking the Financial Institutions and Markets TECEP. I still have the email where the advisor said that it would count for credit and not conflict with any other classes I have taken. I want to point out though, that the Money and Banking DSST is considered an ECO class while the Financial Institutions and Markets TECEP is a FIN class. I think that probably is one distinguishing factor!

Most schools that accept the Money and Banking DSST also give finance credit for it, including TESC. See here: Undergraduate Ways to Earn Credit - Thomas Edison State College - acalog ACMSâ„¢, where it gives you credit for FIN 332 (although I couldn't find anything stating what FIN 332 is).

I did notice a footnote about M&B. "This examination may be classified either as social sciences or business, depending on the studentâs degree program".
Edit: I'm waiting to hear back from TESC about this matter. I told them that I wanted to take the following TECEPs and DSST:
Security Analysis and Portfolio Management
Financial Institutions and Markets
DSST Money and Banking
I guess we'll see what comes of it.

If all three of the courses are taken, this is what they will be put on the evaluation:
Financial Inst. and Mrkts (3.00) --- FIN-331 *PL *TE
Security Anal & Portfolio (3.00) --- FIN-321 *PL *TE
Money and Banking DSST (3.00) --- ECO-332 *PL *TE
I am going for my BSBA in finance, so this really helps me.

I wish I had some info on this course. The forum doesn't seem to have much either. There is nothing in specific feedback area.

Yay!! I am so glad that I was able to help you out! Yes, I also was very excited to hear that I could substitute the Financial Institutions and Markets TECEP for taking another class. The savings and time are well worth it!
I am also gaining my BSBA in finance! Good luck to you throughout your degree completion. If you hear of any study tips for the Financial Institutions and Markets TECEP please let me know. I want to take it sometime this summer, so I plan to start studying near April! Maybe by then, someone will have more info to share.
