TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - LaurieBTX - 04-25-2011 Right now I'm in the middle of my evaluation for graduation by Thomas Edison, but I've hit a little snag: Thomas Edison doesn't count ECE "American Dream" as a history course but as a social science course. This is super frustrating to me as anyone who has taken this test knows it's at least half history x-( . Luckily though, I still qualify for 2 other degrees with the credits I have: Liberal Studies or Social Science. I'm having a bit of a hard time deciding which degree I would rather, and was wondering what y'all think? To me, Social Science sounds a bit more, I don't know, reputable ![]() ![]() Thanks a lot. TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - burbuja0512 - 04-25-2011 If you can do either, I would choose Social Science. It sounds a little bit more focused. TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - Lyanne - 04-25-2011 LOL, have you seen the whole Liberal Arts thread? I actually switched from Liberal Arts to History as a result of reading that thread. Therefore, Social Sciences gets my vote over Liberal Arts. :-) TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - burbuja0512 - 04-25-2011 Lyanne Wrote:LOL, have you seen the whole Liberal Arts thread? I don't think anyone's intent on that thread was to dissuade people from Liberal Arts. At least it wasn't my intent and I know I posted quite a bit there. It's just to make sure you have a plan in place when your degree isn't geared towards a specific career path. Although you can't go wrong having a solid plan regardless of your major. TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - LaurieBTX - 04-25-2011 Thanks you guys, I was pretty sure I wanted social science but I just wanted to hear some feedback before I submitted my request ![]() TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - Lyanne - 04-25-2011 burbuja0512 Wrote:Awwww.. I originally picked Liberal Arts because it was the easiest degree plan to fit tests into, but after reading that thread, I really agreed that a more focused degree was well, more focused. :-) I wasn't dissuaded, just convinced. ;-) TESC Liberal Studies vs Social Science - ryoder - 04-26-2011 That thread got ugly and off track but yes i personally believe that more focus is a good thing. Some schools like usf in Tampa will not let you choose liberal studies as a degree late in the game to dissuade people from choosing that as the major of last resort when they failed to get past the weed out classes in more focused majors. They make you declare it before 75 credits or so. A history major sounds great and so does social science. There is nothing wrong with a strong interdisciplinary base but having a little focus shows that you can achieve a specific goal.
