TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - dodek101 - 05-04-2011 After receiving BA from TESC, did anyone try to get to grad school in different college then TESC, Rutgers...... TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - skyfall123 - 05-04-2011 Plenty from this forum. My youngest son recently finished his BA Computer Science at TESC and was accepted into the Masters in Computer Science at FSU. There have been Excelsior graduates who have done MBA's at University of Indiana (Kelley) and University of Florida (Warrington), both excellent programs. TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - valsacar - 05-04-2011 I was wondering this as well, I'll be graduating from EC this year and would really like to do my MS in computer science. The place I want to go is Stanford, my company is part of their HCP program which would allow me to get the MS part-time and all online... if I could get accepted. TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - ryoder - 05-04-2011 Geezer is the fsu comp sci masters dome online via the panama city campus? I was almost signed up for classes at fsu for the bachelors on comp sci but chickened out at the last minute after being accepted and talking to the assistant dean for many hours on the phone. I was worried about my ability to pass the discrete math course since i bought the book and made it part way through on my own and finally ran out of steam on the proofs. TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - skyfall123 - 05-04-2011 Quote:Geezer is the fsu comp sci masters dome online via the panama city campus? He's going to Tallahassee to do the Masters. He went up and interviewed and came back really, really excited. He said the projects they are working on are really exciting. They are treating him very well. They offered him full tuition plus a TA position which will give him an annual stipend that will cover almost everything. He gets the experience and immediately gets immersed in the program and with his peers. We are both very impressed and grateful. It looks like their undergrad online program is also a great option. He's had his head in C++ since he got back from Tallahassee. He will take a couple of courses at UCF over the summer and then head up at the end of August. FSU has added two new majors Computer Criminology and Computer and Network Administration FSU Computer Science - Calendar of Events Quote:I was worried about my ability to pass the discrete math course since i bought the book and made it part way through on my own and finally ran out of steam on the proofs. My son felt the same way about proofs. It's tough to learn difficult material on your own. This is the reason he wants the face to face instruction for his Masters along with the chance to interact with his peers. TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - Ace_King - 05-04-2011 Wow I would love to go to a Florida university after my Big three degree, but dont know if they'd be happy with all the Penn foster, aleks and SL courses on my transcript =X. :nopity: TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - bawhitsett - 05-05-2011 Excelsior954 Wrote:Wow I would love to go to a Florida university after my Big three degree, but dont know if they'd be happy with all the Penn foster, aleks and SL courses on my transcript =X. :nopity:If the school simply requires a BS from a RA school, and not 120 RA credit hours, seems like you would be okay. There was a fellow over at DI that was accepted into UF despite having earned part of his credits at COSC through professional certifications, which should be classified no differently than other alternative credit sources. TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - Ace_King - 05-05-2011 Really? Cool I'll keep that in mind. =] TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - ryoder - 05-06-2011 Thanks for the update geezer. I am excited for him as well. I love to see young people who are passionate about computers and programming. If he ever needs some career guidance such as what to bone up on for a specific position, don't hesitate to ask. I interview developers at least once a month so i know what my company (one of those big bad profitable ones) is looking for in an engineer. If I had a lower opportunity cost I would love to be in his shoes. TESC BA to MA in diffrent college - skyfall123 - 05-07-2011 Thanks Ryoder. I will take you up on that offer. Here is what I'm discovering. They (the Computer Science research colleges) are funding most/all graduate students that are accepted into their programs, especially US citizens. I understand what you are saying about opportunity cost, especially when a career like yours is in full stride, but these programs would fall over themselves to get someone with your experience. Just a thought....you could go for a fully funded PhD. I'm interested to see what he thinks of being a TA. I think we can both agree that budding programmers and computer science enthusiasts have some very interesting and exciting options available to them both in the private sector and through academic programs. |
