Hi
I have an ASN in Nursing and want a BS in Psych. Finally got an unofficial eval because the degree chart on EC's website made little sense to me. Below is what thet sent me and I am no clearer on where to start. Any help or advice appreciated.
Below is an Unofficial Evaluation for the BS in Psychology degree:
Need 21.00 semester hours of upper level Arts & Science credit
Need 11.00 semester hours of lower level credit in any area
Need 9.00 semester hours of upper level credit in any area
Quantitative Requirement
Capstone Course Requirement
Depth Requirement
Need a single depth in the A&S
Need a single depth in any academic area
Psychology Major
IB. Statistics
IC. Research Methods
ID. History and Systems
IE. Research and Writing
One Course in each of the following areas:
IIA. Biopsychology
IIC. Social Influences
IID. Abnormal Psychology
IIE. Cognitive Bases

Welcome to the forum!
My evaluation was done in a similar way. (They may have changed how they do them. Mine was completed about 1 year ago.)
The top part (above the major) was what I would need to complete a BS in Liberal Studies without a major. Then the bottom part was what I would need if I chose to complete a major. So as you complete what you need for the major, you should also be able to cross off UL and LL credits needed in the top section. Also, if you take Stats for the major, that meets the Quantitative Requirement. If you complete the major, that meets one of the depths.
There should be exams to meet some of the major requirements.
Arts & Sciences means Humanities, Social Science, History, Natural Science, or Math.

Right. I wish they could show this more clearly. I think a lot of potential students get turned off by thinking they are required to take about twice the number of credits than what are really needed. I do think they are making changes to this system.
I assume you have about 79 credits already. Is that true?
Above the major did it say something like "You expressed an interest in earning a major in Psychology. The required subjects and/or credits you need to complete are as follows... "?
If yes to both questions, then I think I gave you the correct interpretation in my earlier post.
It looks like you need 24 credits plus a 3 UL credit capstone for your major. Since you only need 41 credits overall, be careful that your choices will count toward your degree.

Correct on the 79 credits. When I got my eval for my BS in nursing it actually listed ec exams/courses that would help fulfill the reqs. I would be willing to pay a service at this point to ensure i don't waste time/money on unecessary tests. I know I need 2 depths (i think) but based on what i have already taken I'm not sure of the best route. Ugh !! Thanks for the answers and letting me vent.

You're right; it may be time for you to enroll because you do not have a lot of wiggle room to make "mistakes".
Depths are 9 LL and 3 UL credits. I assume you are close to one in nursing. You probably "just" need 3 UL credits. Psychology will be your other depth. How many credits do you have in math? ALEKS Stats counts as 3 UL math credits. In what other subjects do you have a lot of credits or interest to create a depth?

I did a bit more research.
Be sure to check out the latest Liberal Arts Catalog pages 37 and 38. It gives quite a bit of guidance for EC exams/courses that meet the major requirements. Anything listed as PSYx is an ECE exam. (X is the important part to denote an exam option.)
Assuming you do all of the required work for the major and capstone (18 UL and 9 LL credits), that leaves only 3 UL credits in Arts & Science, 2 LL credits in anything, and 9 UL credits in anything. Just make sure you finish that second depth.
What are you planning to do with this degree? If you want to go to graduate school, you may want to check their admissions requirements and make sure using exams for the major/degree will be okay.

Sadly I have no math credits to date but my grad program (nurse practitioner) requires stats so I will be including that as a course not a test out. I want to enter and perhaps specialize as a psych NP hence the psych degree. I am interested in the arts and history as a rule. I printed out those pages and I am a LOT more clear on where to start. Not to sound ignorant but how will enrolling now help me? Thanks

You may decide that you do not need to enroll right now. By enrolling, you can make sure that all of your choices are correct with an advisor. It should keep you from taking any wrong courses/exams. Deciding when to enroll is a balancing act of time, money, and certainty. The usual rule of thumb is to enroll when you get to within 1 year of finishing your degree. That way you do not have to pay the fee more than once, but have time to get any problems corrected. There are instances (like policy changes) that make it better to enroll sooner. At the time I mentioned enrolling, I had forgotten how much information the Liberal Arts Catalog gave for your major.
Also, check the Student Guide to Credit by Exam and search this forum for more testing options, such as CLEP and DSST, for your major and the rest of your degree.
