Thinking of switching from Charter Oak to TESC - jbraz45 - 06-30-2011
Hi everyone. I'm currently finishing up Charter Oak's cornerstone class and am one DSST away from my Associates Degree which is great but the cornerstone has been time consuming and hasn't allowed me to take any exams for credit. From April to May I tested for 12 credits and was on a roll until the cornerstone. After this experience I would rather test out completely than have to take the Capstone which is 13 weeks I believe.
I don't mind paying the large addmission fee that TESC charges as long I can test through. Some of the other threads have been helpful regarding degree plans such as social sciences and liberal arts from TESC. I just want a Bachelors degree and the easiest route is my preference. I think TESC can do that for me. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

TESC is where you need to be then. Post the credits that you already have. It's $75 to apply and they will evaluate your courses within 8 weeks. How many credits do you need?

Are you still going to do the Associate Degree at COSC? 12 credits in one month is excellent progress. You will just have to find away around this class and testing. Classes can be very time consuming. If your capstone is done at the end of all of your testing it should not really effect your progress. TESC will take 6 weeks to do an eval. At the rate that you can test you would have 12 to 18 more credits done. If you feel you need to to look into TESC then do so. But I have heard changes are coming up were they might require capstone classes also.

I was just about to say that the liberal arts program requires a capstone while most of the other programs don't, but TESC now has a liberal studies program that only "strongly recommends" the capstone. Thomas Edison just keeps getting better.

The Capstone can be taken in an 8 or 15 week format and even though I found the Capstone challenging, it was by no means difficult. It was actually easier than studying for some of the harder CLEP/DSST tests.
If you're really looking for speed, TESC might be better but yes it will cost a little bit more money. However, if you are considering taking online graduate courses when you're done, I would recommend staying at COSC and trying out the Capstone just for the experience.
