Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - MailDog - 03-12-2007 Hello, I caught wind of this from another board and thought I'd pass it on. I actually completed three job certificates over the weekend! You actually pick a goal/job and take a certain # of cert tests to acquire a job skill certificate. But for each individual cert test you take, you are awarded a (sub) certificate leading up to your job skill certificate. Now there is a purchase needed for each cert test, and you can only acquire your score/certificate if you pass and purchase the cert test at the end (prices ranges from $25 to $50) for each cert test certificate. For those looking for certifications to add to a resume this is a really good deal. Again, let me say that these are job certifications and they have no academic value - but great material to add to the resume since they carry the Rutgers University name! How labor/time intensive are they? Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - MailDog - 03-12-2007 On the average, 30 to 40 minutes. You have 3 minutes per question to answer. I have taken a test in 30 minutes and as long as 45 minutes. Kind of addicting if you ask me, but fun at the same time!! -MailDog Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - ShotoJuku - 03-12-2007 Are there study materials to refer to while the clock is ticking (open book)? Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - MailDog - 03-13-2007 You could use everything you can get your hands on if you can find the right answer within the 3-minute time limit. Some tests are common-knowledge, some are down out-right tough. I approached the certs as a challenge of my skills and was I surprised on some of these tests - not all of them a walk in the park in my opinion. But, it's an accomplishment (from a distinguished institution) I can proudly note on the resume!! Good Luck ShotoJuku! -MailDog What you get from the certs: Rutgers Skill Certification Center Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - ShotoJuku - 03-13-2007 I took one this morning - "Leadership & Motivation" (just for the hell of it and completed the 40 questions in around 16 minutes. I passed and opted to get the certificate. This kind of reminds me of the FEMA courses, except you don't have any study material (closed book) and the exam is timed like a CLEP. I plan on completing the remaining 6 exams in the Management and Supervision series in between my remaining M.S. Psychology courses. Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - MailDog - 03-13-2007 Shotojoku, I spent a weekend just working on the tests and was proud of the certs I completed. If it wasn't for the Rutgers name, I'd probably pass. But for the price and distinction, you can't go wrong - plus these certs don't have to be renewed either (like some others out there)! I plan to take more, but have to align them with my job skills and goals. -Have fun! -MailDog Skills Certifications from Rutgers University - acs1122 - 03-13-2007 MailDog Wrote:Hello, Maildog: You can get skill certs from Cornell University too. By sheer coincidence, I received a training catalog late in the week.
