Hi all,
I recently finished 6 fema courses to fill my free electives for TESC. I'll use Straighterline to fill the remainder of credits for an associates in business administration. With all the new courses they have added, it seems this may be possible. Has anyone used more then just 6 fema credits for TESC Business Administration degree? I am only interested in the associates for now.
Also how difficult would it be to then continue to test out for a social science degree? I have heard that they won't transfer all credits from an associates into a bachelors, how correct is this? I would prefer to stay away from clep/dantes as much as possible. I think i would fare better working through the course than just taking one big test.

Others will have more valuable input, but you would be going from an Associate Science Business Admin to an Associate Arts, two different departments. Not sure if that would be an issue.
Since it's not an AAS/AOS degree, all the gen eds should transfer. The remainder (business, FEMAs) I would assume would transfer over as Free Electives, but don't quote me on that.
Just realize you are spending more than a third of your time (24 credits) in business for the ASBA, which would only (again, I think) transfer in as Free Electives, effectively the same as if you just took 24 FEMAs.
Of course, I could be wrong, and maybe some would be science/math (the computer credit?) but I would definitely look into it to be sure. Not saying don't follow your own goals, just make sure you know what the impact is, if any.

Your best bet would be to just complete your AS degree, then Re-Enroll and get your evaluation for the new BA degree. Remember it doesn't cost any extra $ to apply into a different department of the same school. Changing your major isn't as bad as it sounds.
Like dcan said, a lot of your business courses may be put into Free Electives. If the Social Science degree has a lot of Free Electives available, then most would be taken by the Business credits which you are unable to put into a degree-specific category. If that happens, FEMA will almost be completely useless.
You may also be stuck with credits which you cannot use, which would not be the best scenario for your degree plans.
Just so you're also clear, Straighterline offers only 1 class which I am aware is accepted as a UL credit. If you are looking to not "test out" of your classes to get a BA/BS, I think you'll be taking more classes to earn those UL credits than you may expect.

You and I are in the same boat. Actually, I was thinking about doing the exact same thing with using the Straighterline courses towards a TESC Associates in Business. I'm curious to know which Straighterline Courses are you going to take?
Also, have you spoken to anyone at TESC yet regarding transferring the credits in and if they'd allow you to complete the requirements for an Associates solely with transferable credits?
