DSST Principles of Finance - Ubuntu_user - 08-15-2011

Okay, I've been reading a textbook on this subject for the past month, but I'm still worried about the test because I've heard it's the hardest Dantes. So, I have a few questions:

1. Is there a practice test for this anywhere on the internet (Petersons doesn't have it if I recall correctly)???
2. How hard is the test?
3. Are the present and future value charts included, or do I need to memorize those huge equations?

Anyone? I'm trying to determine if I should take this test tomorrow or not.

1. I'm not sure there is a practice test. If you havent subscribed to Instant Cert you should so you can view the specific exam forum.

2. The test is difficult, I would estimate it was my 2nd hardest exam behind money and banking. GET THE BAII calculator and learn how to use it, there are tutorials on youtube.

3. The charts are included but if you have the BAII calculator you dont need them. The BAII is worth its weight in gold on this one. Again specific feedback forum!!

I've posted here a bunch about this being the only test that actually made me cry while studying. I didn't understand some of the math. I have a very hard time following directions and so even figuring out how to use the BA II calculator was tough.

.. that's the bad news. The good news is that if someone like me can actually pass this test, it's doable for anyone. I agree with the recommendation to check the specific feedback forum. It's worth its weight in gold. You'll get a ton of study suggestions that will be helpful. I personally used the site mbabullshit.com and other youtube videos to get the more difficult concepts down. I even used youtube to have visual instruction on the BA II calculator.

Overall, this and Money & Banking were my least favorite and most difficult exams, but I'm so glad I studied for them and took them rather than taking a class. If I hated studying this stuff for a week, I can't imagine having to learn about it for an entire semester.

Thanks burbuja! Appreciate your feedback...

Well, after signing up for IC the day before I took the test I went through all of the flashcards but the last set (got partway through it), but I ran myself out of time and had to go to bed because I know it's more important to get a good nights rest. I was the most unsure of myself on this of any and all the tests I have previously taken (90 credits worth) so I figured I'd flunk it. But I decided I'd take the risk since I really didn't want to spend any more time studying.
I was soo surprised when I finally landed on the score page! I passed at 422! I know that's not real high, but I figured it was pretty good considering how scared of myself I was...

Now I'm on to SL Accounting I & II and Managerial Accounting, and then on to PF Intermediate Accounting!

Studying for DSST Principles of Finance. There is just an overwhelming amount of information out there and some can be helpful, some can be more confusing. Looking for a good study guide to use. I want to learn this stuff, not just to pass the test. What is a good reference that will help me learn this information but keep me on target with passing the DSST?

My main source of study was Corporate Finance Demystified, the first 14 chapters. I ended up doing really well on the test. Good luck.
