Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - bacteviral - 09-15-2012 Hello! I just registered for CLEP Biology and Chemistry exams, which are on next month. Although I have a good basic skeleton of both Biology and Chemistry, I unfortunately do not have clear idea of CLEP exams. To those who already took or currently preparing for either CLEP Biology or Chemistry or both, will you evaluate my materials / resources and give some feedbacks? (Yes, I am currently also reviewing DegreeForum's official CLEP Biology Thread) CLEP Biology - studying materials IC Flash Cards Cliff Notes AP Biology + Cliff Notes 1000 AP Biology Flash Cards Barron's AP Biology + Barron's 600 AP Biology Flash Cards Schaum's Outline of Biology Campbell Biology, 9th edition + Campbell Biology Study Guide Barron's SAT Biology REA CLEP Biology CLEP Chemistry - studying materials IC Flash Cards Princeton Review AP Chemistry Barron's AP Chemistry Schaum's Outline of College Chemistry Collin's College Outline of Chemistry Barron's SAT Chemistry REA CLEP Chemistry Zumdahl Chemistry, 7th edition Are they enough for preparing CLEP Bio and Chem? Thank you very much in advance and have a nice day! Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - Publius - 09-15-2012 This may help. http://www.degreeforum.net/general-education-testing-discussion/17073-advice-biology-clep-test-score-maximization.html#post129838 With all those study materials you have listed, I'd say you'll be good to go! That's almost overkill. Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - cookderosa - 09-15-2012 My suggestion is to narrow down your resources, it's better to have solid basics than to be shaky and broad. You don't need all of those sources, there's no way to know all of those books cold in 1 month on 1 subject let alone two, it's simply not possible unless your background is more than you let on. Chemistry AND biology inside 1 month for your first exams? That's ambitious. Just curious, why register ahead of knowing you're ready? Or which sources are best at targeting key points? I guess if it were me, I'd say chem or bio next month. One science is absolutely doable, both? Hard to say, I don't know you, but I know me, and I'd pretty much have a brain implosion. Just sayin' hilarious Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - CLEP_enthusiast - 09-16-2012 I would try to get a final from a local college for there General College Chemistry course. If you can do that, you'll probably pass this test. Remember Chemistry is practically the hardest one. Frostburg university is a great school. I've never been there, but I've cited their professors in a couple academic essays. At the bottom of this link is an overview about their chemistry final and two links to practice exams. Now that I found this I'm probably going to use this, I would be wary of the the outline books because there seems to be some disconnect, you want information from colleagues writing the tests for the College Board people and this is close to what you're going to get. General Chemistry Online: Exam survival guide *Also, ALEKS has General College Chemistry semesters one and two. I'm not sure which one the CLEP test covers but considering recommended credit is five I'd venture to guess it's just the first semester, but still that's a LOT of information if you've never had chemistry before. Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - clep3705 - 09-16-2012 The link Publius provided is good. Your resources are all over the place. You need to take Jennifer's advice and narrow it down. I didn't use any resources to study for biology and chemistry, but I've taken 18 hours of chemistry and even more biology. My sister-in-law used the REA book and squeaked out a pass in biology. I'm comfortable recommending the REA book followed by the Wikipedia links I published (last link in Publius's post). Spend the money and use the Peterson's test to assess your readiness when you think you are ready. I don't know what to tell people to do for chemistry other than take the Peterson's test to assess readiness. Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - NAP - 09-16-2012 Here's a good thread to help you narrow down your Chemistry CLEP resources: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-education-testing-discussion/11381-chemistry-clep.html Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - Westerner - 09-16-2012 clep3705 Wrote:I don't know what to tell people to do for chemistry other than take the Peterson's test to assess readiness. And the Official Clep Study Guide practice test—use that. Khan Academy is an AWESOME resource for these tests. Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - bacteviral - 09-16-2012 So it is better to just choose and focus on one CLEP exam... Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - cookderosa - 09-17-2012 bacteviral Wrote:So it is better to just choose and focus on one CLEP exam... In this case? Yes. This is your first exam, and you're attempting to earn 4 semesters of credit in 1 month in 2 subjects you've never studied. Why risk failing? There are many examples of taking 2 tests at a time, but generally those overlap- yours don't, and they're not the easiest of exams. (biology overlaps better with natural sciences, US History 1 overlaps with Civil War, Art overlaps with Humanities....) Questions on CLEP Biology and Chemistry! - seamus11 - 10-03-2012 Hi Everyone I am currently studying for clep chemistry I have used the research and education clep chemistry book, cliffs ap chemistry and a self teaching chemistry concepts and problems book. I have completed the practice tests on patersons and got 52% and 66% are these easier than actual exam. I completed the research and education practice tests and got 56%. I also bought CLEPchemistry.com - Your #1 source for passing the CLEP Chemistry papers only getting 45-53% in these could some one please inform me if the above tests are similar to the actual exam. I have been studying for 2 months now finding it very difficult. I would appreciate and help/advice. Also what type of questions is there on experiment equipment as there is nothing about that in the resources I have used. Thanks |
