Social Sciences at TESC - GeorgiaPeachie - 12-15-2012

I've flirted with credit by examination for awhile now. I recently checked out the social science degree and put this together. I'm interested in hearing feedback. Courses in green I have taken the actual class and will be transferring in. Courses in red, I still need.

ALSO, I need to take something in a class form to help a poor GPA (if my withdrawals/failures are going to follow me? Or will just what I've completed satisfactorily be considered?)

Social Sciences at TESC - sanantone - 12-15-2012

TESC only gives a GPA for courses taken with them. If you're applying to graduate school, the grades from all of the schools you've attended will follow you. Remember, the liberal arts capstone is required and you have to take it with TESC. If you get a 4.0 in just that one course, then your GPA for TESC will be a 4.0. However, graduate schools will calculate your GPA based on all college courses taken. Accounting won't be placed in general education electives. It's not a social science, natural science/mathematics, or humanities course.

For courses in the social science major, I have listed just about all of the options here.

Hmmm... Not sure what to do. I would like to keep my options open for a Master's.

Hmmmm....

Noted. So could I move my Business Communications to General Education Electives and move Accounting to free electives?

Off to check.. thank you!

You already have Business Communications planned under general education electives. Ethics will probably fall under GE electives. It's usually transcribed as a philosophy course, which is humanities. Accounting will end up in free electives. The best way to boost your GPA is to take some cheap community college courses. I took psychology courses online at a local community college and TESC transcribed them as upper level credit. I didn't have a GPA with TESC, but the GPA on the last 60 credits of college coursework I had taken was high enough to get me into a graduate program. Of course, there are graduate programs that are basically open enrollment with a 2.0 or no GPA requirement.

Depending on how TESC transcribes computer applications, the Intro to Computing DSST will be the easiest option for completing the natural science requirement if it doesn't duplicate the course you already have. The next easiest options would be to complete Intermediate Algebra or Trigonometry through ALEKS and the Astrononmy and Environment and Humanity DSSTs. Being a Social Science major, the US History II CLEP would probably be an easy test for you to get 3 more credits in GE electives. The Lifespan Developmental Psychology DSST is supposed to be easier than the Human Growth and Development CLEP. They're transcribed as the same course.

Oopsie. You are right. I moved it so much, I forgot where it ended up.

Thanks.

Hmmm... I'll have to weigh that out. I was just looking at the options for a Master's.

Looking at the course descriptions.. It might be transcribed as the Computing course.

I'll look into those. Thanks!

Thanks again!

I took HG and D already.. but I'm unsure what it will transcribe as.

Off to do some editing with these thoughts in mind.

This website kind of gives you an idea of which tests are more difficult than others. Some might tell you to just take the Social Sciences and History CLEP for 6 credits, but you have to be prepared to cover a lot of ground.

How about the Environment & Humanity DSST? Many people on this forum (including myself Cool ) think it is an extremely easy exam, and there are some great study resources in the Specific Feedback section of the forum. Social Sciences & History, as sanantone suggested, might also work for you since you will have already taken courses related to psychology, sociology, political science, world history, U.S. history, microeconomics, and Human/Cultural Geography. You might be able to take it cold with all that background! :roflol: It is a 6-credit exam (which is more than you might need for your General Education Electives section), but you could either not take the American History II class you added earlier OR split the credit and put the other 3 in Free Electives.

I just realized I left off the Capstone.

Sheesh.

That goes in the concentration area right? If so, I'd love to take off the Middle East test!

Yes, the capstone counts as an upper level course in your concentration/area of study
