Fema credits, now $78 each?? - nerako - 12-26-2012

I heard FEMA credits were FREE to transfer to TESC but on their website it says you have to pay $78 for them to send each one to your school?

Anyone know more than I do about this?

That is only for transferring FEMA credits into the Emergency Management program at Fredericksburg Community College.

"Cost is $78 per credit hour" (look under "College Credit for IS Courses")
Frederick Community College: Courses and Programs » Degree and Continuing Education Programs » Degree Programs » Emergency Management

Besides entering that specific program, I believe some people used to "launder" FEMA credits through FCC before they started charging.

FEMA Independent Study, which has the credits you can transfer to TESC do not charge anything:

"Both Student Transcripts and Official Transcripts are issued free of charge."
Emergency Management Institute - FEMA Independent Study Program FAQs

That's probably for Frederick Community College. FEMA is probably unaware of other schools that will directly transcribe their credits for free. FCC is the official partner school.

I certainly haven't heard anything about this... All I had to do was fill out the below form, mail it in to FEMA, and they mailed one transcript to TESC and one to me. There is no option on the form for a method of payment, either. I'm 99.9% sure that FEMA credits are still free.

Hope this helps! Smile

Nerako got everyone fired up. Please be mindful of how you phrase a question, we are an active bunch and will get on any issues/changes quickly. We had a bout with SL just last month. Great stuff!

Yeah, we veterans don't mess around! Wink

Funny thing is that I took 2 courses through FEMA but didn't need any of them thanks to my military credits so never bothered to transfer them or take any more. I just like that this option is there for others.

Correct, once you've completed all the FEMAs you plan on taking. Smile You and your college will both get a copy of your transcript.
