Getting KCTCS Prerequisties Waived - bluk30 - 02-01-2013 Hey everyone, I enrolled at KCTCS to pick up the last few CIS electives I will be needing for Thomas Edison. In Ternzer's old post from last year he says they let him bypass his prerequisites, and I'm curious if any of you have been successful with that. I keep getting a runaround from their advisors about it (spoke to 4 people already). I'd like to get my courses done with in the next few weeks so I can put in a graduation request at TESC in March. They only require a beginning algebra (which I have of course), but jumping through the hoops of sending in my transcripts would kill me on the deadline. Anyone ever dealt with this? Special student status sometimes allows you to go around red tape like entrance testing. Prereqs may or may not be as easy. You'll need to know if they are required, meaning proof is required. (Recommended means you can get in without). If you do have the required prereq complete, and it's a paper issue, simply tell them you can provide them with an unofficial transcript to get you registered WHILE YOU WAIT for the official transcript. If you've not taken the prereq, and it is actually required, you'll have to be very sweet. Advisors can override a prereq, even if they tell you they can't, Most won't. Some will I have done it, and I've had it done for me. I'd also not get off the phone until I was registered, or the hold was lifted. I think it's in the advisory training orientation to delegate out accountability as often as possible. <heavy sarcasm >

I couldn't agree more. Thanks for the tips, and yes, I did get the prereq's waived (finally). I just emailed the professors and asked nicely as you said. They were much more flexible than the "student success coaches" I had to deal with. To anyone reading this in the future, just Google the professor and ask. Have them email your advisor and they will put you in the class. Don't even bother dealing with the KCTCS staff, they will only give you the runaround. |
