My Degree Path - dposborne - 04-28-2013 I really haven't seen much on the Degree paths available to those that are serving or that have served, so I decided to put my 2 cents in and post my degree path through TESC up. Please note that I did retake CALC I even though I had credit for it already from my training in the Navy. I did this to refresh me for CALC II. Also note that I could have tested out on pretty much all of the Gen Ed classes I took through Coastline, but I had to do it the way I did because this is pretty much the only way to take classes out to sea on a submarine. Hope it helps Legend NAVY = Navy Training (Nuc Pwr School) TESC = Class @ TESC CCC = Class @ Coastline CC (NCPACE) General Education (60 SH) A: English Composition ENC-101 English Composition I 3.00 sh CLEP ENC-102 English Composition II 3.00 sh CLEP B: Humanities ENG-201 Technical Writing 3.00 sh DANTES PHI-384 Ethics & Business Profess 3.00 sh TESC PHIL100 Intro to Philosophy 3.00 sh CCC HUM110 Humanities thru Arts 3.00 sh CCC C: Social Sciences (Ok to use 8sh here for NAVY) PSYCH115 Child Growth Development 3.00 sh CCC PSYCH100 Intro to Psychology 3.00 sh CCC SOC110 Marriage and Family 3.00 sh CCC SOS-305 Drug and Alcohol Abuse 2.00 sh NAVY Calculus I and II A: Calculus MAT-231 Calculus I 4.00 sh TESC MAT-232 Calculus II 4.00 sh TESC Statistics STA-201 Principles of Statistics 3.00 sh ALEKS General Physics PHY-111 Physics I 3.00 sh NAVY PHY-112 Physics II 3.00 sh NAVY General Chemistry CHE-111 General Chemistry I 3.00 sh TESC Computer Progrmng/Programmble Logic Contrllr COS-116 C Programming 3.00 sh TESC General Education Electives (9SH) BIO-101 Introductory Biology 3.00 sh TESC COM-108 Fundamentals of Speech 3.00 sh NAVY (Recruiter School) MAT-129 Precalculus for Technolog 3.00 sh NAVY Area of Study (51SH) A: Nuclear Physics PHY-271 Nuclear Physics 3.00 sh NAVY B: Thermodynamics NUC-221 Fundls of Nuclear Enginee 3.00 sh NAVY C: Heat Transfer EGM-323 Heat Transfer 3.00 sh NAVY D: Fluid Mechanics EGM-333 Hydraulics 3.00 sh NAVY E: Reactors/Plant Systm NUC-321 Reactor Engineering 3.00 sh NAVY NUC-331 Primary Reactor Systems 3.00 sh NAVY NUC-351 Nuclear Instrument & Cont 4.00 sh NAVY (EWS Qualification) F: Radiation Effects NUC-342 Radl,Reactor,&Envir Safet 3.00 sh NAVY NUC-361 Radiation Effects 3.00 sh NAVY G: Electrical Theory NUC-433 Nuclear Mechanical Sys Pr 8.00 sh NAVY H: Nuclear Materials (Ok to use 2 sh here for NAVY) NUC-313 Nuclear Materials 2.00 sh NAVY I: Radiation Anlys Lab NUC-341 Radiation Safety 3.00 sh NAVY J: Nuclear Electives NUC-332 Secondary Reactor Sys 3.00 sh NAVY NUC-372 ALARA Principles 3.00 sh NAVY NUC-337 Nuclear Mech Sys Troubles 3.00 sh NAVY PHY-371 Radiation Physics 3.00 sh NAVY K: NUCLEAR ASSESSMENT NUC-490 Nuclear Tech Assessment 3.00 sh TESC L: NUCLEAR CAPSTONE NUC-495 Nuclear Enrgy Engng Tech 4.00 sh TESC Free Electives (15SH only need 6 due to overage in Area of Study) COP-199 Internship/ Co-Op Educati 3.00 sh NAVY MAR-310 Principles of Sales 3.00 sh NAVY (Recruiter School) OTHER COURSES: (Leftover Credits) HEA-106 Personal Health 1.00 sh NAVY HEA-195 First Aid 1.00 sh NAVY PEA-199 Spec. I recently had Ms. Colburn send me an unofficial evaluation for this degree. I now have a renewed interest in it after seeing Fundamentals of Nuclear Engineering under Thermodynamics, Hydraulics under Fluid Mechanics, and Radiation Safety under Radiation Analysis Lab. Courses for those areas were only listed as being "under development" at TESC, and I had resigned myself to just finishing my current plan since I haven't been able to find online courses to fill these requirements. Thanks again. I'm off to search for online courses in Fundamentals of Nuc Eng and Hydraulics (or other possibly appropriate courses). Will My Degree Path - IrishJohn - 05-01-2013 Your degree plan looks good! Do you mind if I post it at Degree Forum Wiki under TESC Degree Plans, or would you like to do it yourself? My Degree Path - dposborne - 05-04-2013 IrishJohn thanks a lot. I don't mind if you post it at all. wmpancho, I would definitely recommend the degree since it is ABET accredited, which may allow you to get into a decent MS program. Let me know if you need any other assistance. I have to warn you though, the capstone for this degree is insane. I looked over a sample project and I can say that I am substantially intimidated. Thanks, Shipmate, this is the first Nuke degree plan I've seen here so had to add it to DF for others in case it can help them with their own plans. My Degree Path - dposborne - 05-05-2013 It's a pleasure to help out. I know I was very confused when I first started on my path to a diploma. Hopefully this can alleviate some of the frustration for others. I took a look at the post up on Wiki and it looks good except that it's a BS and not a BA. I think I corrected most of the BA's to BS's except for one which I couldn't figure out how to change. My Degree Path - IrishJohn - 05-05-2013 Sorry about that. I couldn't change the title of the page so I just created another one. Perhaps the administrator of DF Wiki can delete the old page. Here you go: Dposborne's BS in Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology - Degree Forum Wiki My Degree Path - Life Long Learning - 02-24-2015 Well written.:hurray: I wish others would post known degree paths. |
