Hello, I'm new to the forum and have spent days researching for information regarding a potential degree plan in Health Studies at Charter Oak. I have a lot of credits from a community college and two universities. I would like to finish as soon as possible and as cheap as possible. I've taken the time to make a sample plan with all the credits I've earned and the credits I will need. Would anyone be so kind to look over it for me and share their thoughts? Also, would you make suggestions for classes or tests I can take to fulfill the "plan" credits? Also, would I be able to use FEMA credits to max out my free electives requirements? After I finish my Bachelor's I would like to possibly get a graduate certificate in Health Education or RHIA or RHIT certification. Thank you. Smile

Yes you can use FEMA to round out Free Electives, I'd complete the PDS Series as it will be a tidy highlight on your resume.Emergency Mangagement Institute | Professional Development Series (PDS)

You might consider the free to take Saylor ethics course....but get it confirmed first BUS205: Business Law and Ethics « Saylor.org – Free Online Courses Built by Professors it's NCCRS approved so should be fine at COSC...but I don't know anyone who has actually done it.

As to the rest your gen eds look good, you know what you need. there are DSST/CLEP for most of that if your so inclined. Big question is....how much of what you have carries an upper level (UL) designation? these are the 300-400 level course of which you will need 30 credit hours. 3 UL credits come form COSC's Capstone, so your gonna need about 9 more courses. at least 18 hours will have to be in the concentration, then you might get a "minor" concentration with at least 9 more UL hours in something else (business looks like it would be a great fit for you here). That would leave an "elective" UL course. The DSSt Substance Abuse is an easy call for you its UL, but be sure it doesn't duplicate anything you already have.

Are you hoping to test out? I think the Health Care credits are going to be nearly impossible to complete via CBE in the UL.

I took some of my Health Care concentration via self paced courses offered by CSU-Pueblo, there are a few Ul courses that might be applicable in Psychology/Sociology at U of Idaho Independent Studies as well.

Look here under Nursing and Sociology Nursing > Division of Continuing Education > Colorado State University-Pueblo (note nursing ethics would be both UL and satisfy the Ethics requirements)

The Psych courses here look good Psychology-Independent Study in Idaho-University of Idaho

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I'm going to start researching them now. And I was wondering about my credits being upper level also because most of them are from a community college. I will contact Charter Oak and inquire about them. Thank you again!

As a rule CC credits are counted at the Lower Level. The Charter Oak Master List of Exams is helpful in picking CBE http://www.charteroak.edu/Current/Academics/EarningCredits/exam/exams-master-list.pdf

I think there is a shot for these courses being assessed as UL....where are you taking them? Whats the course designation?

Of course, if you haven't taken them we might find a better route...depends on what your comfortable with.

The courses with the Plan designation are courses I haven't taken yet. I have no idea what to take or where to take them.

Check the links i gave you, COSC doesn't care where the credit hails from provided it's a regionally accredited school. If your paying more than $100-$150/credit at the schools listed you can likely do it cheaper/faster at CSU-Pueblo, U of Idaho, BYU, and CBE.

What's the end goal? What do you hope to do with the degree?

I'm in the process of checking out all of the links now. I plan on either pursuing a graduate certificate or Master's in health education or get a RHIA OR RHIT certification.

I don't know how COSC does it, but at TESC, if you take a class for graduate credit that is not part of a degree, you can "lower" it down and use it as upper level undergrad credit. So, possibly, if you were eligible to take any of your master's classes without enrolling as a cert/degree-seeker, just a few of them maybe, you could then use them in your COSC degree. I wouldn't word it like that when I asked COSC, I would instead tell them that you were interested in taking X classes for personal enrichment and your job, and wondered if they could be used in your degree. (if you completed the whole cert/degree they likely could NOT be used at COSC). If it worked, it would look something like this: grad class 1 and 2 --> undergrad degree --> graduate from COSC--> pick up graduate certificate where you left off. In this scenario, you're double dipping.
