Question about Organizational behavior - brownstien - 06-06-2007
I plan on getting a business degree from Excelsior.
Part of the requirements are that I must take Organizational Behavior
HOWEVER
DSST version= lower credit
ECE version= upper credit
Additional degree requirements are 12 hours of upper level business electives.
Considering this situation am I better off taking DSST?
My thinking is 1) DSST= cheaper
2) no way they would count the ECE version as part of the 12 upper credit electives
is this correct? apologies in advance if its a stupid question but I need to know for sure

The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked, so ask away, that's what we're here for (please be sure to use the search function too!)
Regarding your question, you first need to contact your Student Advisor at Excelsior and find out if they will take both tests (I believe they will). Secondly, decide which of these is the most passable, keep in mind that IC has a study guide for the Dantes test, but not one for the ECE test. Lastly, you need to decide which 4 tests you're going to take to make up those 12 U/L hours, I chose to use the ECE Psych tests because IC has outstanding/proven study guides for them (Please search each of them to see broader feedback, most say the same though

Good Morning All,
I took the Organizational Behavior ECE test this morning and was awarded a B. There was a lot of information to remember, I did a bit of cramming, which did not help, was very anxious about taking the test, did not sleep well, and did not feel ready to take the test. Does anyone ever get to the point where they feel ready and comfortable about taking a test? This is the 2nd exam I have taken, the first on a computer, it was a nice way to do it. The other exam I took was Introduction to World Religions which was paper and pencil.

The Organizational Behavior class that I took at University of Phoenix was considered UL Business credit at Excelsior. For that matter, so was the Ethics in Management class I took there.
Those two classes are accounting for 6 of the 12 UL Business credits required at Excelsior.
... so, I would go with the UL exam for that reason. You have a lot more options with your lower level credits, such as FEMA and CLEP.
just my own opinion. I would keep fishing for advice from others who have been there, done that.

I just got back from taking the ECE Organizational Behavior exam. I managed an A, so I am very happy about that. The test was definitely not easy. In addition to IC, I had read through the recommended text, and read through the course guide which is a quick outline last thing before leaving for the test. I also did the Excelsior practice tests, and I think that definitely made a big difference. The practice tests do give a feel for the type and difficulty of questions on the actual exam, with some questions on the actual exam being very very similar to practice test questions. Going over what I did wrong on the practice tests really made a difference for me, and almost certainly made the difference for me between an A and a B.

The ECE Org Beh test counts as 3 of your 12 required upper level credits--as does the ECE Ethics. I believe those are the only two that are business core requirements AND count against the 12 required as upper level if you take the ECE exam (or other approved). As always, check with your counselor--but you will also find this information if you download the business catalog from their site--although you have to connect the dots yourself. I agree with Barcotta. Here are your choices:
* Take 2 Upper Level Exams for Ethics and Organizational Behavior, then find 2 other UL Business exams to take (total of 4 exams);
or
* Take 2 Lower Level Exams for Ethics and Organizational Behavior, then find 4 UL Business exams to take (total of 6 exams).
Either one will cover the Ethics, O.B., and advanced level business requirements at Excelsior.

I studied for 3 weeks. Keep in mind though, that I am a fulltime student, so I started studying Org Beh and Accounting a week after finishing my final exams for the spring, and that's all I had to do while my kids were in school all day. I haven't looked much at Accounting for the last week, so that is up next for fulltime devotion until I take the CLEP on Monday. I am also genuinely interested in the subjects, as I have finished my requirements for my B.S. and am essentially in limbo until I start grad school in the fall.

What are you doing for grad school? Are you going thru EC?
