Question about Straighterline and COSC - J_T - 12-14-2013 I've been lurking on this forum for the past couple of months and the info here has helped me out a lot. I'm enrolling at COSC this month and I'm planning on getting an A.S. there. As of right now, I have 47 credits: 44cr from SL courses and 3cr from Penn Foster. I still need to finish 3 SL courses (4 credits each) and the Cornerstone at COSC.. for a total of 62 credits. I spoke to someone at COSC last week and she advised me to enroll ASAP since I need to apply, register and be accepted by Jan. 8th in order to take Cornerstone during the Spring semester (and graduate in May). The problem is that I don't think I'll be able to finish the last 3 SL courses this month... I'm still waiting for the 2 lab kits to arrive! Does anyone know if I can still take SL courses after I enroll at COSC? I'm thinking of having SL send the transcript for the courses I completed (so I can enroll)... and then send a second transcript for the 3 courses when I finish them... sometime in January. Would that work? BTW if anyone has any questions about the SL courses below.. let me know. Just tell your academic adviser which SL courses you plan to take, and they will include them in your degree plan. Question about Straighterline and COSC - J_T - 12-15-2013 Alright, that's good to know! Thanks publius2k4 Question about Straighterline and COSC - carasusu - 12-24-2013 J_T: COSC also has an oral communication requirement. Any idea on what you are going to do for that? I'm just about to enroll my daughter (she's already received an evaluation and been accepted) and I'm looking for alternative for this course besides taking it through COSC. I'm waiting to hear back from COSC regarding whether they accept Straighterline's "Intro Communications" course. Anyone else know? Also, does anyone know if other courses at COSC can be taken simultaneously with the Cornerstone, or do you need to fully complete that before taking any other courses? Thanks, Question about Straighterline and COSC - rebel100 - 12-24-2013 carasusu Wrote:J_T: COSC also has an oral communication requirement. Any idea on what you are going to do for that? Anyone else know? The DSST Exam "Principles of Public Speaking" will satisfy the requirement Principles of Public Speaking DSST Study Guide - Free-Clep-Prep.com You might also consider a waiver if she has any verifiable public speaking experience. Question about Straighterline and COSC - carasusu - 12-24-2013 Thanks, Rebel100. I should have clarified that the DSST is NOT an option. My daughter does not do well under pressure for the speech and/or writing courses. That would be the easiest route, however. ![]() ![]() Question about Straighterline and COSC - rebel100 - 12-24-2013 https://is.byu.edu/site/courses/description.cfm?title=TMA-150-M001 Pricey, but may work for you... It used to be one of the "go to" sources for public speaking, if they haven't changed it the program should be pretty straightforward. Question about Straighterline and COSC - carasusu - 12-24-2013 Eeshhh! Pricey indeed. But it may be worth it for the self paced aspect of it. For anyone else who is looking, I just heard back from COSC, and they do NOT accept Intro Communications as their Oral communication. ![]() Question about Straighterline and COSC - rebel100 - 12-24-2013 carasusu Wrote:Eeshhh! NMJC has it cheaper, but it will be at their regular pace https://is.byu.edu/site/courses/description.cfm?title=TMA-150-M001 New Mexico Junior College - Distance Learning $300ish. Frankly for the extra $200 BYU is likely easier to get into and out of. Question about Straighterline and COSC - J_T - 12-24-2013 That's good to know, thanks rebel100. |
