Technical school: will it transfer to the Big 3? - cabreban - 01-08-2014 Presently, I have about 57 credits of college work (15 hours in upper division 300 and 400 communication courses) I will be taking 6 hours this spring (anatomy physiology 1 with lab) and medical terminology... 10 more hours in lower division (A & P 2, abnormal psychology and microcomputers). I am pursuing an Occupational Therapy Assistant associates in applied science. Once I complete my degree at my local technical college and become a (board) certified occupational therapy assistant, I will have over 134 hours of coursework (see below). Once I complete my associates, I would LOVE to go ahead and apply to one of the BIG THREE to get my bachelors with my 134 hours of coursework. Which of the schools do you think will be a great option? What type of bachelors? Advice? What do you think I will have left to complete this degree? Would a B.S. in Health Communication make sense? I will need to complete the following to become a COTA: OCTA 1010 Introduction to Occupational Therapy 3 OCTA 1020 Growth and Development 3 OCTA 1030 Developmental Tasks 3 OCTA 1040 Conditions in Occupational Therapy 3 OCTA 1050 Analysis of Human Movement 4 OCTA 2010 Psychosocial Dysfunction 4 OCTA 2020 Psychosocial Dysfunction Treatment Methods 44 4 OCTA 2040 Pediatric Issues 4 OCTA 2060 Physical Dysfunction 4 OCTA 2070 Physical Dysfunction Treatment Methods 3 OCTA 2090 Geriatric Issues 4 OCTA 2120 Occupational Therapy Trends and Issues 3 OCTA 2130 Therapeutic Adaptations 3 OCTA 2210 Level II Fieldwork - A 8 OCTA 2220 Level II Fieldwork - B 8 Previous College work: Com 109 Prin of Human Comm 3 Com 4490 Integrated comm management 3 Com 3376 Interpersonal Comm 3 Com 4400 Directed Study 3 Com 4455 Contemp Issues in Org Comm 3 Com 3344 Comm training in Org 3 Engl 1101 English Comp 1 3 Engl 2110 World Lit 3 Hist 1110 World History 3 Hist 151 US History 3 Pols 201 American Government 3 Math 105 College Algebra 3 Art 1107 The arts in Society 3 Phil 100 Critical Thinking and Form Values 3 HPS 1000 Fitness for Living 3 Psych 2201 General Psychology 3 Soci 2201 Intro to Sociology 3 BL 220 Business Law 3 Mktg 370 Principles of Marketing 3 Technical school: will it transfer to the Big 3? - cooperalex2004 - 01-08-2014 Speaking for TESC in particular, users of this site in the past have had trouble bringing over technical credits. TESC accepts regionally accredited community college credits but does not accept technical credits in transfer. You'll want to see ncpenn's experience from last June on this post: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/19615-technical-courses-tesc-credit-transfer-3.html If TESC were to accept the credits, the next obstacle is to match the credits and have enough upper-level courses to graduate. TESC has also more recently shown that courses from two year schools (like a community college) no longer will be matched to upper-level courses. In either one of these cases TESC may offer some credits but you'll still have a gap before graduation depending on how they view your technical credits and how they fit into a program. If you are interested in TESC then my advice would be to speak with the admissions department about your transfer school itself and then apply so you can receive an evaluation of credit. Technical school: will it transfer to the Big 3? - sanantone - 01-08-2014 If the credits apply to a degree program, then TESC will accept them as long as the school is regionally accredited. Technical credits are credits that are not at least 100-level and/or can't be used toward a degree program. It sounds like your credits do apply to a degree program. COSC will only accept credits from regionally accredited schools like TESC. Excelsior will consider accepting credits from a nationally accredited school on a case-by-case basis. Otherwise, credits from nationally accredited or unaccredited institutions have to be ACE or NCCRS approved for college credit. I don't think TESC has a degree program that will make good use of your credits. I will recommend COSC's health studies program. Excelsior has a health sciences program, but I don't think it will be as good of a fit as COSC's. Technical school: will it transfer to the Big 3? - cabreban - 01-08-2014 Thank you! I appreciate your quick response! Is it possible that I will have very little to finish my Bachelors? Also when should I apply to COSC to make sure I complete the requirements? It will be 2.5 years before I complete the COTA requirements. I know with Excelsior there is a $500/per year charge. Anything like that with COSC? |
