I know many people who are handcuffed and wish they made better decisions. Unfortunately, loans are the only way for some.

Most of the comments on the Huffington Post article are surprisingly positive. Most schools accept at least a few CBEs. I would like to see that CAEL study Jay Cross talked about in the comments section.

Being in an online or ground class does not guarantee learning. Some schools are worse than others, and some professors are worse than others. I've gotten As in courses where I learned absolutely nothing. These courses were nothing but busy work. There is this sort snooty guy on another forum who constantly brings up tacit learning. He believes that the most important things that one will learn can only be learned by person-to-person interaction. With him being a New Jersey resident, of course, he looks down upon TESC. Hardly anyone had much to say when I mentioned that TESC had the highest CPA pass rate in New Jersey one year. It doesn't matter if TESC doesn't have a ranked business school; you can't become a CPA without passing the exam. Maybe, just maybe, these people learned tacitly by actually being on the job.

It really is all about the inner locus... I remember when I was coming out of highschool with a full ride to Georgetown and how all of my buds were thinking I was crazy for joining the Navy... I had a plan and I stuck with it. Right now I have a BS and still no college debt, I have a butt load of experience and only maybe one out of ten of my buds makes even close to what I make in salary...

I meant to respond to this earlier. I saw this study, but it doesn't cover grades or learning outcomes. Jay Cross mentioned better grades among PLA students. This study is all about the number of credits completed, graduation times, and graduation rates.

Great post Sanantone...
I went on an interview yesterday (got the job btw), and the senior interviewer and I really hit it off. She and I agreed that intelligence isn't show on a piece of paper more than it shows itself in real life and real life experiences. Intelligence is often about your ability to identify a problem and figure out the best way to solve it, not just regurgitate up previous examples.
It was SO REFRESHING to know another nurse (an MSN btw) that values common sense and people that want to do the greatest good in the best way possible for society.
