:willynilly:

We are supposed to come up with a topic for our research paper. There don't seem to be any parameters for an acceptable topic - only this grading rubric says nothing about what the topic should be. I guess this topic is wide open which doesn't make it any easier - so out of the billions of things there are to research...I have to narrow it down to one and it should be easy but I'm stuck. Sad

How about something that includes one of our favorite topics - credit-by-exam?

Since you are a Paralegal major, how about something in Paralegal Studies? Are you able to combine paralegal studies with marijuana? Perhaps, something along the line of your major should be fine...

Try using the Q & A in your class discussion board. The classmates should be helpful at narrowing down. There will be a week where that is one of the required "discussion topics". You will list ideas and classmates comment back. Most students find a topic in their degree field. My daughter is only getting a general associate degree but will be going on to Vet Tech school. So her topic was related to the veterinary field: laser therapy for pets. Others did things like, emergency management, leadership in the workplace, Chinese History (picked a certain era), Effective Altruism, etc. Those are a few I remember seeing in my daughter's cornerstone class. But you will definitely get feedback from classmates and your professor should be very helpful at narrowing down too. Something in paralegal is a good idea.

I wrote about the growth of online learning and the impact it would have on education Smile

Okay, I finally thought of something.

I'm going to do a research paper on human sex trafficking in the United States.

Now I just have to narrow down that topic. :/

We are at the point where other students are giving feedback but so far there's not a ton of exchange of ideas. Mostly "good idea" or "great topic" but not real input on how to narrow the scope.

Now that you have a topic, it should be pretty easy to narrow it down. Just begin researching the subject, and follow the research where it takes you.

Just like when you browse the internet; you start out looking at LOLcats, and eventually you're reading about endangered Bengal tigers being hunted for sport.....know what I mean?

You may find something along the lines of the below topics useful...

1. Paralegal Training for Combating Human Trafficking in the US
2. Sex Trafficking in the US: How the Internet contributes
3. Legal and Ethical Implications for Child sex trafficking in the US

I will try to connect whatever topic I am researching about to my major. If any of the above topics don't appeal to you, you may try connecting paralegal to human trafficking. Is there any role paralegals play in combating crimes? What are they? Is sexual or human trafficking a crime? How does the paralegal come in? Yo may research these and come up with something...

@ Publius...

That was a funny but extremely accurate way to describe what happens when someone browses the internet. LOL

Saharapost. I like the 2nd one.

I was also recently reading about a Hawaii law that exempts police officers from prosecution if they need to have sex with a prostitute in the line of duty. That kind of blew me away.
