Why is instantcert material just geared toward computer based testing and not paper based testing? What is the difference between these two forms of testing?

I am sure that someone from instacert will answer this, but let me give you the perspective of the person taking the test. If you are a member of the military you have two options. You can take both the DANTES and CLEP tests at your local ed center. They offer both type of tests, but only paper based. DANTES tests are always paper based.:mad:
However, if you are stationed stateside and can find a Clep testing center and take the computer based version af the CLEP tests. This is my preferred method of taking CLEP's. The local college administers the test, and collects a $15 fee. The other $55 is funded by the government. PLUS
you get instant gratification of recieving your test scores on the spot. Paper based tests take about four weeks for the scores to come in.

Our materials are not "geared" towards computer testing. We design them based on the content outline from Collegeboard, so they should adequately prepare you for paper-based or computer-based CLEP exams.
I said that our materials tend to be more in tune with the computer-based exams because that's what most of our members take. Since we improve our materials based on feedback we get from members, over time you would expect our materials to become more in line with the computer-based tests.
Of course, this is all based on the assumption that the paper-based tests have different content from the computer-based ones. If they're actually exactly the same, then our materials would prepare you equally well for both.

I'm in the military I have taken only the paper based test, I prefer to recieve my score instantly, today I regeistered at a local college and only had to pay $20 for the registration fee, and the $55 will be waived the day I take the exam.Is the paper based content different from the computer based content? The reason why I ask this question is because I'm finding a lot of people are saying that the instantcert format is similiar to the computer based format?

Y'all have to keep in mind, the test is the test - whether it's CLEP or DSST - they are designed to ask questions to guage your knowledge of the subject matter. That's the information that's outlined in their fact sheets or guides. Instacert also uses the headings from the guides as the groupings for the flashcards. The ONLY difference between paper and CBT is how the test is delivered.
Also keep in mind (this was posted by someone else in another thread, too) that both Collegeboard and Chauncy Group have many forms of their exams. Different testing centers get different forms, some have multiple forms and some only have one, it just depends. Each form contains a certain number of items that are live and a certain number that are field test items. They will never tell you which are which. When the exam is graded, the field test items don't count toward your score.
When it comes to fees, I think the only difference between military and civilian is who covers the cost. I'm civilian but from what I gather just from the various posts here, military are fortunate enough to get either all or the majority of the fee paid for them.
One last thing to note - CLEP is computer-based, however you still only get a PRELIMINARY score when you complete the exam. The actual score is processed by the scoring groups at ETS (I think they do both CLEP and DSST - but I could be wrong). The final score is then sent to the school you selected before you began the exam. If you want an official CLEP score you have to pay for a transcript. Because DSST is paper, they also send you a copy of your transcript when they send it to the school.

My advice.....Always take CLEP exams on computer testing (CBT). Wrong and missing answers do not count against you as like on paper based exams only the number of correctly answered questions count.

That page specifies that the paper-based exams are "right-only scoring" as well. I've never heard of a CLEP that penalizes you for guessing.
