I never taken a TECEP exam and have a question on how the process on receiving credit with TECEP works. I see this "course" is a 3 month block. Do I take the exam anytime within the 3 month block? Once I take the exam and pass, do I receive the credits right away? I am trying to apply for September graduation but I need to complete my two final courses by the end of July. My capstone course will be done by July, however this TECEP course is scheduled to be completed in August. Basically what I am asking is, if I take the exam in July and pass, will I receive my credits right away or have to wait till the course is over. Has anyone taken this exam without studying?

Hi, when it comes to TECEP, you can take it anytime within the 3 months block period. Though I am yet to get a grade, I believe you'll get credit once grading is completed and posted on your evaluation. I think it takes between a week and two to have your grade posted- depending on whether the TECEP is MCQ or written type.

I took the CIS 107 last week and I found it easy. If you are familiar with computer terms, what each hardware and software does, and if you know how to use computer well, I think you should not have any problem. I should add that it pays to study the recommended text as most of the questions seem to come from there- sometimes word for word, sometimes fill in the gap...

Saharapost - I had a feeling the test would be easy. Thanks for the feedback!

If taking the test so late in the process, I would highly recommend using the online testing method and complete the TECEP exam by the 3rd week of July. The day you take the exam, I would email the TECEP coordinator to let him/her know you are in the grad queue and request your exam grading be expedited. TECEP grades have been reported to take as little as 2 days (when submitted online) to 6 wks depending on the exam. Of course multiple choice exams are graded much faster.

On the graduation form, submitted on or before July 1 (for september graduation), be sure to note in section 3 the May semester TESC courses still awaiting grades and the TECEP exam (incl date taken). The instructors have up until the 10th of the following month to post grades to the college. At least this was the case when I took my undergrad courses. (Note: Just because you see them on your grades page does not mean they've been submitted to the college. You'll know when they've been posted when you see them show up on your academic evaluation.)

The process for me was as follows:
- They will begin the file auditing and then your file will sit on hold until the final grades have posted.
- Once that happens the final credit evaluation, audit and certification processing will begin. The turn around can be as short as 1-2 days.

I would send out a tickler email to the graduation specialist if all grades have not posted by August 10. Good luck!

Thank you for the help everyone.
@bricabrac I would definitely email the TECEP coordinator once I am done with my exam. I messed up on my Tuition Assistance form so I missed the May TECEP and now have to wait till June to take it. I know that block is June till end of August. As long as I pass the exam before 3rd week of July, I should be able to meet the gradation date of September correct?

Yes, I would test on or before July 19. If you take a look at the graduation information page the May term, which qualify for September graduation, ends on July 27. Which allows a few weeks for final grades to post, and completion of the degree audit and certification. In comparison, if it were an essay exam, I would say be sure to test by June 30th.

When you mentioned other courses ending in July, they are for the May semester correct?

Required Textbooks
Gary B. Shelly and Misty E. Vermaat, Discovering Computers, Complete: Your Interactive Guide to the Digital World (Boston: Course Technology, Cengage Learning, 2012).

The syllabus speaks directly about MS Office 2010.
I have Office 2003. do you suppose that would work in place of 2010?

Saharapost can tell you more about the exam but for the course, it was geared more towards the Discovering Computers textbook. (You can get a used copy for under $5 at amazon.) I've linked the textbook companion websites. I enjoyed using them, the games were fun.

Discovering Computers (2014)

The MS Office book was used for the lab assignments. [/URL]It should help you with the 2010 functions without having to purchase the book or new software. On the course midterm/final we were asked questions about the diferent MS ribbon functions. The TECEP may be different.

Good luck!
