I somehow like WGU programs. Though I knew they don't accept international students (non resident in the US) into their programs, I gave it a try few days ago by writing to tell them I was interested in their MBA. Their response:

Quote:Our records indicate that you are living outside the U.S.

At the present time, Western Governors University is not accepting applications from persons living outside the United States (unless you are an active-duty U.S. serviceperson or spouse of a serviceperson stationed at an overseas U.S. installation).

Reaching this decision was not easy. It derives from WGU's commitment to provide superior service to all students. Unfortunately, differences in time zones, problems locating secured, proctored testing centers, and difficulty providing high-quality mentoring create barriers to delivering adequate service to international students.

As the University grows, our ability to address these challenges will improve and the issue will be revisited.

We wish you well as you pursue your educational goals, and we are disappointed we will not be able to serve you.

With best regards,

It seems to me that WGU is a fine school.

My plan had been to get the LSU Certificate in Accounting to fulfill the requirements to sit for the CPA exams, but this might be a better option since it is a mater's degree vs. a certificate.

But, from WGU's page for the MS in Accounting:

WGU Wrote:Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university.

Yeah, I saw that. My plan has been to get the BSBA at Charter Oak using accounting courses for the upper level business electives and then the certificate at LSU. I don't know if there is a way to get a degree in accounting at COSC to fulfill this requirement at WGU.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you stuck with COSC? I think Excelsior has an accounting concentration. TESC has the BSBA in Accounting that is test and ACE credit friendly.

I am not stuck, but I think it would set me way back, changing schools this late in the game.

Hmm thanks! I'm currently at SNHU but I believe they're trying to gip me on the degree requirements. I want to transfer in a business law course but they won't let me. Their policy clearly states that a master's degree can have up to 6 transfer credits and at least 30 credits must be taken at SNHU. I will only have that one course transferred in and have way more than 30 credits taken there. After this semester I was thinking about transferring somewhere.

Now that some time has passed, has anyone inquired as to if you can get exemption for the accounting bachelor if you have a certain amount of related credits taken?

I considered inquiring, but I haven't because I probably will just stick with LSU (or possibly the University of North Alabama). Like you, I have wondered if they would make an exception and take prerequisite courses instead. Let us know if you find out the answer.
