Is InstraCert enough for American History 2? - Aggie2016 - 07-06-2014

I'm hoping to take the American History 2 test in the next few weeks and have been doing the flash cards on here. I've also gotten the official College Board CLEP study guide from my library, although that only has one practice test.

What's been everyone's experiences with the American History 2 test? I've heard it's pretty tough and I just want to make sure I'm preparing adequately. I need a 60 for my University to give me credit. I have somewhat extensive knowledge of American history, so I suppose that will work in my favor, but I still do not want to under-prepare.

My primary resource for preparing was the REA exam prep book. I read it twice. But I'm also old enough to remember much of the history content covered on the test. What you see on the news today eventually ends up on a history test.

Thanks. As I can see you scored pretty well on it too. What was your overall attitude towards the exam? How did you feel about it?

I didn't use IC for this test, but it's best to use more than one resource, just so you are exposed to as much info as possible because you never know what you'll be tested on. I used REA (book & PTs), Annenberg Learner videos, and Google/Wikipedia.

I've heard really good things about the REA books, so that seems like a good investment. Like I said, I have a pretty good knowledge of US History from Reconstruction -- Present, but there's still a lot I don't know. I'm just trying to gauge the best way to prepare for this test.

Start taking practice tests to see how you do with the info and what areas you need to work on.

I will answer your question by saying you should take Westerner's advice. In addition to reading the REA study guide, I went through the REA sample tests three times, the last time being at the test center right before the exam. Pay attention to the explanations of the answers.

Yes, this is very important! If you don't get many questions similar to ones on the PTs, you'll often learn something through the explanations that you will be tested on. That's happened to me a lot.
