Completing a BSBA in Management by testing out. - xdrelx - 07-12-2014 Hi my name is Andre. I have no previous college credits and limited knowledge about how college works. I want a degree from either Excelsior College or TESC. My question is which of the two colleges are cheaper and are there any good degree plans for a BSBA in Management from Excelsior College. I found a get degree plan for TESC online already. I'm still trying to figure out how this testing out method works. Well thanks for reading my post. You'd just need to take one TESC course for a graduation GPA. I would love to get my BS in business, but my dilemma is knowing which school to choose. I prefer Excelsior over TESC. Does anyone know a degree plan or a thread where one is for EC and their courses? I have yet to find necessary info. And also, I want to go the cheapest route. (Who doesn't?). Does anyone know if the pay per credit hour option could apply to EC as well? My biggest issue is not knowing for sure wether I can complete the necessary coursework online only. Including the Capstone requirements of EC. Completing a BSBA in Management by testing out. - sanantone - 08-12-2014 EC does not have a per credit tuition plan and will not be as cheap as TESC. Mainly because most people on here are going the TESC route and I basically know which courses I can test out of. Now that that's set; what about the one course you have to take for GPA. How do I go about that? How long do courses take? AND a few more... Do I need to take all of my CLEP/DSST before I apply to TESC? What about StraighterLine and ALEKS? Will either of those help with total cost? A lot of people complete some or all of their CLEP/DSST/etc. credits before enrolling to ensure they are out of the way to finish within the enrollment period, but you do can do it the other way around if you choose. You technically do not NEED to take a course for a GPA - people have graduated without a GPA - but most of us want to be able to list that on resumes, etc. That course must be taken directly through the school, and to earn a letter grade, must be either an Online or Guided Study course type. In other words, you cannot use e-Pack, TECEP, or any of the other course types as they are all Pass/Fail. It will go towards your residency requirement, though. Online and Guided Study courses are on fixed 12-week schedules, so consider that when mapping out your timeline. You can take graded courses from cheaper schools. Since the Per Credit Tuition Plan does not have an annual enrollment fee, you should probably enroll as soon as you're ready to take a TECEP in order to lock in a degree plan and have access to advisement. People have been thrown off course by following a degree plan for one academic year and facing changes later on when they decided to enroll. CLEPs and DSSTs are about $80, I think. Quite a number of UExcels are $95, while others are about $325-$440. Depending on your speed and the difficulty of the course you may be able to complete at least 2 StraighterLine courses in one month which would cost about $100 each or less (if you complete more courses in a month). ALEKS is only $20 per month, Saylor is $25 per test, and Kaplan, TEEX, and NFA are free. On the other hand a normal college course would cost several hundreds to over a thousand bucks. So yeah, do the math. ![]() Completing a BSBA in Management by testing out. - EI2HCB - 08-12-2014 Residency at Excelsior is at 12 credits with no per year fees following. Plus if you join the school through POAG your price per credit drops and the enrollment fee is not that great. While Sanantone is correct there is no credit tuition plan through testing out, 12 credits including your capstone isn't a great deal of money plus it contributes to your GPA if you did need one. It means 5400 for your gpa and residency. there are less expensive ways for sure which is why I'm pushing the rest of my business degree in the CLEP direction. |
