Do I have to be enrolled in Excelsior before I can take the DSST and CLEP - lkm370 - 07-18-2014

Hi, I sent my transcripts about a week ago to Excelsior so I can enroll. They're supposed to send me back a paper telling me what credits I need left to obtain my BA. I wanted to know if its possible for me to take the DSST and CLEP exams before I'm technically enrolled? I know the CLEP allows you to mail your score to your home and all that so I figured maybe I can take some exams now and then once I'm enrolled I can send my test scores to excelsior. I feel I'm good to go and take a couple of exams right now and am growing impatient and just want to take them hilarious

You can take them now, and you can go ahead and have the scores sent directly to Excelsior.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to know I can do this but I have once question. How do you send your DSST scores? I tried looking it up on their website but I cant seem to find a straight answer. Does DSST send you a paper with your scores to your house or do you save it on your login? How exactly do they work since Ive never taken a DSST test yet?

It is unlikely that you'll get a paper sent to you about what credits you need in order to get your degree although it should be available to view through your "my details" page and then click on "official evaluation" once it has been completed. Every time credits are applied to your official evaluation you'll notice the date changes. This sometimes takes weeks usually about 4 weeks to hit your "official evaluation" With a little help from your friends Smile you'll be able to start attempting CLEP and DSST tests in order to eliminate the requirements. You'll still have to the INL course and your capstone plus some of your core subjects that may not be available through testing out. If you haven't purchased a subscription to InstantCert then you should consider it along with which courses that you haven't already covered in your previous education. What will your degree choice be?

I'm going for the BA in Social Sciences with a International Relations minor

I'm transferring 60 credits from a community college, About 18 of the 60 credits came from CLEP examinations, the rest were actual classes I took. I pretty much meet all the core requirements that Excelsior requires, at this point I just need to take a bunch of CLEPS and DSSTs to fill in the rest so I should be able to test out everything minus the Capstone requirement.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the INL course? and how does DSST send your scores to your school of choice? I know on CLEP, you just put the school code and it gets sent. I was wondering if I took lets say a DSST exam without being yet enrolled in Excelsior, where does my exam go?
