3 Digit DSST score to 2 digist DSST Score - travelkne - 10-13-2014

I been looking at Excelsior conversion guide for DSST.

I noticed some of them have grades instead of pass/fail.

Some of it as 400 as passing grade and that i get since the test result comes in 3 digit. (200-500 score i think...)

but there's A.B.C is in 2 digit score like 55, 47, 42.

So is it saying i need to get 455 to get an A?

what 3 digit score would i need to get in order to get 55 score conversion?

thank you,

You can't convert from two to three digits. The difference is in the methodology in the exam design: http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/DSST_Exam_Scoring.pdf

Since the way scoring works has changed it isn't really possible to convert other than to say there are passing scores for each one and that once an exam has a three digit score they won't offer it the old way [old scores are still valid and have their old passing scores]. The school will either use their past experience to find a score match or will give you a pass based on the score provided on the score report they receive.

This technical Data sheet explains the scoring a little more. http://getcollegecredit.com/images/uploads/documents/Technical_Data_Sheets_rev_20100108.pdf The 3 digit grades were added for exams that were refreshed (redone) a few years ago. Those that have not been refreshed still use 2 digit scoring. Be sure your college gives grades if that is what you are looking for. Most schools do not list a grade they only record Pass/Fail.

Here is another pdf that explains the difference between the two scoring methods.

does this imply, if i score higher than 434 (B-equivalent) I will get a A for the credit?

Sorry, but I think people have made the answer more complicated than it needs to be. LOL. Excelsior only assigns grades to 2-digit DSSTs. Currently, they have no system for assigning grades to 3-digit DSSTS. You cannot convert 3-digit scores to 2-digit scores because the scoring methods are different. In short, 3-digit DSSTs will only be pass/fail at Excelsior.

You will only get a letter grade for the 2 digit exams and only at Excelsior. 3 digit exams are PASS/FAIL.

Of the big 3 TESC does not give a letter grade for any CLEP/DSST/TECEP. I am not positive but I don't think Charter Oak does either.

I might have misunderstood the OP's question, I thought he/she was looking to apply the grades to other schools

Yep!! I agree with sanantone. They only apply letter grades to the 2-digit DSST's. They have that "Credit by Exam" guide...use that as your bible!! I'll definitely be taking a few of those, so that I can have a GPA when I graduate.

Good luck!!

There are very few DSST exams left with a 2-digit score. They have been making a push to get all of them to the "refreshed" stage so investigate which ones (for sure) are still at the 2-digit scoring and take those very soon if you need a GPA.

I think COSC also gives grades for 2-digit exams.

Don't get your hopes set on taking a 2-digit exam. DSST's refreshed test list was last updated 03/2014. More exams have been refreshed since then. You'd probably have to contact them to get an updated list.
