Soc 384: Gangs - Christopher - 01-09-2015
Anyone taken this class. I was browsing and saw this one. I was like âwowâ. None of the colleges here of any level never had a class called âSOC: GANGSâ Seriously. Looks like a good class to learn about.

âAdvisory: This is an upper-level course. Students should have knowledge equivalent to an introductory sociology course.â
They should had also added âor have lived in the South Central Los Angeles area.â Lol

I've taken the OL Course, it was very informative. You learned about how gang members grew up in multiple generations of gangs, women in gangs, ideology of gangs, etc. Don't expect it to be like the show "Gang Land". A lot of reading from what I remember and yes it's an upper level course that you will enjoy. The mentor I had was great as well, I believe he was a retired Port Authority of NY / NJ officer.

Yep! I took it several years ago. I might have posts in the archives, my memory is a little foggy. I had a male proctor, pretty youngish and regular CJ instructor (had him twice actually). My favorite homework assignment was to photograph local gang activity in my community. Took my kids with me (seriously).

I had to photograph graffiti /tags of gangs we were studying and any others. Unfortunately, it was easier than it should have been.
