TESC Residency? - shanekarp - 03-22-2015 Hello! I was hoping someone could help clarify the whole TESC residency thing. I am trying to finish up all testing and be ready to apply to TESC by the end of this year to complete their Capstone for the BA in Liberal studies. If I am just applying to take the Capstone, do I need to be concerned with the per credit tuition plan? or does that only apply if I was going to be taking multiple classes through TESC for an extended period of time? Thank you for all your help! TESC Residency? - studymom - 03-22-2015 I am far from an expert, and I hope that if I say something really wrong, someone will jump in and correct me. TESC has basically 3 tuition options. It doesn't sound like you'd be interested in the comprehensive plan since that would cover up to 36 credits, and you are only planning on taking the capstone. That leaves the enrolled option and per credit plans. The enrolled options plan would include an Annual Enrollment Tuition of $3154 (assuming you are out-of-state). Tuition for the capstone would be $236 per credit x 3 for a total of $708. That equals a grand total of $3862. Under the per credit plan you don't pay the Annual Enrollment Fee and your tuition would be $491 per credit x 3 for a total of $1473. There is a residency requirement of 24 credits with this plan (for a bachelor's). The good news is that it can be met using TECEPS which are $111 each. Since you will be taking the capstone, that leaves 7 TECEPS to equal the 24 needed credits. TECEPS at $111 each x 7 equals $777, plus the $1473 for capstone tuition totals $2250. It all comes down to how you prefer to do it. There are several posts here that refer to TECEPS if you decide to go that route. One other thing, if you are military, that definitely changes the tuition rates, but also means you do have the 24 credit residency requirement. Also, you may want to consider enrolling prior to the catalog change this summer to lock in this catalog's requirements. TESC Residency? - SweetSecret - 03-22-2015 We could probably tell you more information if you posted what credits you have completed so far. What I can tell you though is that you can't just go to TESC and expect to pay the cost of the Capstone under the Pay Per Credit tuition rate. The Pa Per Credit tuition plan requires that you complete 24 credits of residency with TESC. So either you complete the 24 credits at a low cost using alternative methods (TECEPs/PLAs) or you for over the high cost of the Comprehensive or Enrolled tuition options just to complete that 3 credit capstone course. Personally, if you still have at least 24 credits to go, I'd suggest enrolling now under the PPC plan unless you have money to be spending needlessly. TESC Residency? - Prloko - 03-23-2015 To piggyback, TESC requires the credits for residency to be applicable to your degree plan. IOW, even if you have the 120 credits and you are just taking TECEPs to fill the 24 credits, the TECEP will need to be able to replace existing credits on your degree plan. Being you are doing the LS degree, that program has 27 free electives, so you should be able to easily apply any TECEP to that portion (with TESCs approval). If someone was doing, say business, which if I recall has something like only 6 credits of free elective, it would be a little harder to fill with TECEPs because the TECEPs will have to fit in to the degree plan. It's doable, but requires a little more planning. This was applicable during the time I was a student two years ago, if this has changed, someone please chime in. TESC Residency? - sanantone - 03-23-2015 The residency credits don't have to apply to your degree. This has been confirmed by a few people who have communicated with advisors. I also received an email from an advisor that said the residency credits do not have to be applicable. When I switched from general management to CIS, the Federal Income Taxation TECEP I passed was dropped to "other credits" on my evaluation, but it still counts toward my residency requirement. TESC Residency? - shanekarp - 03-23-2015 So since I am out of state and not military. Unless I take 7 teceps for the 24 credit residency requirement, I would have to pay the annual enrollment fee of 3154$ ? And does anyone know when they make you pay the annual enrollment fee? TESC Residency? - sanantone - 03-23-2015 You can initially choose the Per Credit Tuition Plan if you want to enroll but not pay the $3,154 enrollment fee. You will either need to complete 24 credits in residence or switch to the Enrolled Options Plan in order to graduate. If you want to initially enroll under the Enrolled Options Plan, then you need to pay the enrollment fee right away. You would also need to pay it right away if you switch from another tuition plan. That makes more sense! I went ahead and applied to TESC a few minutes ago. Once I receive my Transcript evaluation I will post it on here to see what I'm working with. Thank you all very much! |
