My friend is trying to find the fastest way to complete an AA/AS degree. She's mid-thirties and has her own business and when networking she's been very embarrassed about never finishing her degree all those years ago. I told her about how awesome you guys are and she ran around town yesterday trying to get all her transcripts so I could ask you fine people if you can help.

She's thinking Charter Oak (because that's where I went) but she's open to any of the other Big 3 as well.

If someone could plug this info into a degree plan for an AA/AS or whatever highest degree she is close to attaining, that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, they are three different schools and I'm not sure?!

I'll ask her to call the colleges and find out.

I only looked quickly, so this needs vetting, but it looks like she would need at least the following Gen Ed's (General Education Requirements - Charter Oak State College Catalog) I also included how she might complete, but there are other options:

Ethics (Saylor or DSST)
US Government (CLEP)
Non US History/Culture (DSST human Cultural Geography).......satisfies Global also
Global Understanding
Literature/Fine Arts (A&I Literature 6 credits)
College Math (ALEKS or CLEP College Math)

So 5 exams /classes....a cornerstone at COSC, and FEMA to fill in the general electives maybe.....

You can see the COSC Master list here: Credit Value of Specific Exams - Charter Oak State College

I appreciate that. I would love a few more opinions before I tell her what I think her options are. I'm not great at fitting in these requirements into the degree puzzle. I'd like to know how many electives she'd still have left after all of that. Also, I didn't realize COSC was still accepting FEMA?

Gen Eds

Associate's

From llooking at the coursework you mentioned, Charter Oak may be a good option. They will include FEMA and TEEX.

She basically needs to do one course in literature and fine arts (3), math course, an ethics course, possibly an oral communication course (but she should be able to get credit for her communication course, and if not she can file a petition with Provost and probably get it), a course in non-us history, a course in us history, and global understanding.

With that said, for literature and fine arts, CLEP A&I, ALEKS Math (maybe trig, algebra, or statistics), DSST Ethics in America (lower level), DSST Intro to World Religions (which satisfies the global understanding requirement AND non-us history requirement), & CLEP History of the U.S. I would forgo the DSST in Human Cultural Geography since there's on instantcert flash card set for that.

Total cost would be about $100 + $60 ($20 for ALEKS + $40 for ace) + $100 + + $100 + $100 + $1333 charter oak cornerstone dumb course = $1,793

If her theology credits can transfer as upper level, she'll also only need 26 UL credits to fulfill UL requirements.

They still accept them (FEMA) and they are free to take and add.
