Patten University tuition discount offered through May 31st - ladylearner - 05-21-2015
I just learned that Patten has a tuition special for students who enroll by May 31st - $199 for undergraduate and $349 for graduate. I'm already enrolled under this plan through my job's discount program and I don't pay any other fees. Happy to answer any questions.
It is really a great deal because apart from taking math & science at Aleks and Straighterline, I have not spent any additional money since I started there. I am just a student and I don't work there so I can only give answer based on my own research & experience.
In the past I have had mixed feelings about Patten but I think I have figured out how to make it work for me. Learning about nontraditional education platforms through this forum has helped me wrap my head around it. I know it's relatively new so I'm willing to be the guinea pig for the undergrad experience at Patten.

I am enrolled as a degree student and I have completed several classes there. As I understand it, the only way to attend is to enroll in a degree program. Transferring the credits back out is the same as transferring from any other regionally accredited school.
The link is just patten.edu and any new students who enroll before May 31st get the discount.

Patten University is regionally accredited but unique in that it's a for-profit school that doesn't accept financial aid. Having a highly structured degree program and not having a financial aid department enables them to keep costs low and give you a flat tuition rate for enrolling in a self-paced degree program. You can complete courses by just studying the materials, passing the final exam, and getting a passing score on a graded project. There is a virtual library with a great librarian who is a real person. Patten accepts up to 90 transfer credits for undergraduate degrees, which is fairly common. They also accept credits earned through Straighterline, NCCRS and ACE and there's no limit to the number of transfer credits that can be earned through non-traditional means. However, their degree programs all have a specific course sequence and anything not included in your degree map doesn't get transfer credit. Once you're finished a class, you are automatically enrolled in the next one. I find the staff to be responsive and my advisor is in regular contact with me. Final exams are closed-book and proctored by Examity via webcam. There are no fees of any kind. Course materials are made available via links to external websites, videos, books in the virtual library, Coursesmart, etc.

I should add that one of my favorite things about Patten is the website. Everything is there: every email, every grade, every graded assignment, your degree map. When I complete a class, my GPA and degree map are updated the same day and I'm automatically enrolled in the next class unless there are only a few days left in the term. I have transferred credits after enrolling (math & science) and they were evaluated & added to my degree map the same day. I can even look at the materials for classes I haven't enrolled in yet. I can't view the project description, but I can see enough to get a sense of the course load.

When I called they said they normally have different discounts offered throughout the year, I also think its important to know when you sign up for this promotion they said it is NOT just for the first term, but the price is throughout the program, that is a really good deal.
