Canadian Nice - LaterBloomer - 07-24-2015 Visiting Toronto for the first. What's with these people? No one crosses in the middle of the road. It's always at the crosswalk. Drivers don't run red (or even yellow) lights. Folks stop and chat with you. Are Canadians really this nice, or is a plot to weird me out?:confused: Canadian Nice - cookderosa - 07-24-2015 My dear friend just moved up there last week. She's loving it! Canadian Nice - Lindagerr - 07-26-2015 I am 2 hours from toronto and it has been nice when I was there. But at this time of year you have to watch out. People from all over come to Toronto and other southern Canadian cities in the summer when it is beautiful. Half of the people you meet are tourist. I was in Niagara-on -the-Lake on Friday, this city is so amazingly beautiful. Employees and locals were friendly, but all the tourist were rude, and crossing in middle of street. Traffic, public transit and pedestrians do seem to move in a more organized pace in Toronto than in many other cities. Canadian Nice - Yanji - 07-26-2015 Canadians actually consider Toronto to have the "least nice" residents in the country. :roflol: Coincidentally, I'll be moving there next month. Drivers don't run red (or even yellow) lights.I've lived in Southern Ontario for 63 of my 72 years. Yes, Canadians are generally nice. I'm the exception that proves the rule. Being nice has nothing much to do with crossing the road. We realize our free health care is no good if we get killed, so we avoid death. Simple. ![]() Red/yellow lights? Plenty of Canadians are feeling an economic pinch. With prospect of a huge fine, ever the meanest driver will hesitate to run a red light! ![]() J Canadian Nice - LaterBloomer - 07-26-2015 Okay, reading the newspapers indicates that provincial (?) senators aren't being as honest as they should be, and the police might have been to aggressive during the G20 summit. If Toronto Ian are mean, God forfend that I go to other provinces or territories! (I'll continue to visit 'cause the niceness is harder to discern with the language barrier! They are appointed from four major regions by the Governor General on the advice of the Prime Minister. I hear that our present PM, Stephen Harper, is floating a trial balloon about possible abolishment of the Senate, as a part of his election platform. Could be very popular. There's been a lot of grumbling up here, both about reports on the alleged financial wrongdoings of Senators and perceived lack of return on the money the Senate costs. Before the Rt. Hon. Mr. Harper abolishes it, here's a wiki on the Senate, if it helps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senate_of_Canada J Canadian Nice - Devanna - 07-27-2015 LaterBloomer Wrote:Visiting Toronto for the first.
