@passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - heidi08 - 07-26-2015 passit1 passit1 is offline Senior Squire Hi - I took the English Comp II TECEP and it was easy! Print out the test description and answer the questions twice. Actually type the essays and answers. The exam might have a different topic for the essays but the types of essays they ask you to write are exactly the same. And you are allowed to have a handbook for the TECEP. I flagged my St. Martin's Handbook (bought used on Amazon) so I could turn right to the sections and not waste time during the TECEP. Very helpful for the citation portions. And I still use it for the 2 courses I'm taking now that didn't have a test option. On the back of the handbook was this website: bedfordstmartins.com/smhandbook with free questions on citation formats - very helpful in between practicing the essays. Hope this helps ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ @passit1, Did you have the choice to select MLA or APA format for the cited page in Task 4 of the TECEP ENG Comp II test description when you wrote the exam? Thanks for your feedback @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - gingerbeefE - 07-27-2015 MLA or APA is fine, just stick to one when you choose it.. I wrote a review on this exam the other day I'll edit my post when I find it gingerbeefE Wrote:I got the results in about 2 weeks. @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - aviator guy - 07-30-2015 Feel free to call me stupid, but... How does one go about writing a research essay without researching something? I'm supposed to take this tecep soon and I've been curious as to how this part works. @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - jmgst71 - 07-30-2015 aviator guy Wrote:Feel free to call me stupid, but... How does one go about writing a research essay without researching something? I'm supposed to take this tecep soon and I've been curious as to how this part works. I had the same question. This is the reply I got from TESC: "Part 1 of the exam is a research proposal, and part 2 is an essay that is related to the proposal. Part 1 is the only part that has anything about research; exam takers do not have to actually conduct research, though. Instead, they are asked to explain what types of research (surveys, interviews, journal articles, anecdotes, etc.) they might use to support their arguments and how they would use it. So, the research information the students provide in part 1 is hypothetical--not that they "make up" research, but that they demonstrate an understanding of what type of research is appropriate for an academic paper. When students get to the actual essay, they do not have to use research, since they do not have access to any. They simply write an essay. Regarding the citation of sources, this part of the exam is measuring the student's ability to use in-text (parenthetical) citation. The bibliographic and page information they need for the exercise is contained within the directions. Students are given information for four sources and asked to create a Works Cited page or Reference list based on those sources. Again, all of the bibliographic information they need is provided. Students will need to bring a handbook that contains sections about citation--either APA, MLA, or both." @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - passit1 - 07-31-2015 Hi - have I mentioned how weird it is to see my handle in a forum title? Is this my lame claim to fame? The test description gives examples of the kinds of essays, etc that are on the test. Like the copy/paste at the beginning of the thread says: I actually took the sample exam twice before the TECEP. It is strange to do the essay without actual research but answering the sample is the same as what they ask of us for the TECEP so it got me very ready for the test. @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - cbosdell - 07-31-2015 Does anyone have any study tools or recommendations for this test? I took it last week and knew I didn't do great but thought I did well enough to pass. Today I finally saw they had given me a grade of NC so apparently not. It's really frustrating not knowing the exact grade I made in this situation or what exactly I messed up on. I didn't bring any scratch paper which was my mistake since nothing was saved between sections. I did use the St. Martin's Handbook 7th Edition although the protector tried telling me at the beginning only scratch paper was allowed but she finally let me use it. I've been out of school for five years so maybe I'm rusty but does anyone have any examples for the first two sections and maybe third that I could study to get a better idea of what they're looking for? In particular knowing my audience, what type of research I'll use and how, the "essay blueprint", and acknowledging objections and limitations were areas in particular I wasn't entirely comfortable with. Also on task 3 it says in the first paragraph to summarize and in the second to write an analysis. I used some of my in-text citation in the summary. Is that allowed? I understand I can only take it one more time so I really want to make certain I pass. Also does anyone know if a failed TECEP will count towards the residency requirement for the per-credit tuition? Thanks! @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - heidi08 - 07-31-2015 @passit1 - "I actually took the sample exam twice before the TECEP" Where do you get the sample practice TECEP exam, in the contents description, it did not say there were sample exams @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - aviator guy - 07-31-2015 jmgst71 Wrote:I had the same question. This is the reply I got from TESC: Thank you very much for this info... this makes me feel a LOT better! @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - passit1 - 08-01-2015 Click on "View Test Description" and the TECEP Test Description will open. Scoll down to "Sample Tasks". They are a sample exam and are very similar to what is on the test. @passit1 for TECEP English Comp II - Puttlesbridge - 08-01-2015 Great info this is my daughters next test. Thanks for posting. |
