Request Advice on BSBA CIS Plan After TESC Evaluation - southsidej - 08-23-2015
Hello All,
So, after an extended break, I re-engaged my effort to get my BSBA CIS done. I applied to TESC under the Per Credit plan and had all of my transcripts sent, which resulted in the attached evaluation.

A couple of additions since the eval was done:
I took and passed the CMP-354 TECEP (Network Tech.), and
I finished TEEX Cybersecurity for Everyone and Business Professionals courses.
For context, I test well and have more money than time at this point in my life. That said, my questions for the forum are:
- I have searched and found very little on the "Personal / Social Responsibility" requirements. I checked out Sanantone's GenEd wiki but because they're all listed under "Diversity," I'm still unsure what tests map to which requirements. Is there a definitive test-to-course mapping that anyone has put together, or can anyone provide advice to that end?
- I have 7 TECEPS left for residency. Based upon bricabrac's advice about BUS-421, I plan on taking that as a TECEP, so that leaves 6 that I need to choose. Opinions on least difficult TECEPs for residency?
- Any recommendations for the programming language requirement that won't take me forever or have a huge time commitment? My research tends to point to an online class (sigh) but its worth asking the question.
Even though I am more of a consumer of information on here than a contributor, the forum contributors' efforts have gotten me this far, and for that I am very grateful. Thank you.

TESC made changes to their catalog July 2015. It looks like you are under the previous catalog, 2015. You linked to the 2016 Gen Ed listing. For the Diversity requirement you can use any diversity course listed. For the Ethics requirement you use any ethics course listed. For the Personal/Social Responsibility elective you can choose either a diversity elective or an ethics elective. There are more options for diversity electives then ethics electives. I am under the 2015 catalog. For Diversity I have Marriage and Family TECEP. For Personal/Social Responsibility elective I have Intro to Sociology TECEP. For the Ethics elective there is Ethics in America DSST and Environmental Ethics TECEP.

Why, you are correct. For some reason, I assumed I was under the 2016 catalog, but I guess I made it in just under the wire. Sanantone's 2015 GenEd wiki makes more sense. TESC's requirements page for the 2015 catalog makes more sense too, for that matter. Thanks!

Hey southsidej, I'm gonna PM you.
And some questions for my behalf.. how'd you find the TEEX courses? And how about the TECEP? For a person who doesn't work in IT, and is just familiar with computers, how hard do you think it'd be to study for (with the textbook, of course? More importantly, how much time did you spend on the TEEXs and the TECEP?

I'm not sure that I'm a good person to answer the question about the TEEX courses. I already knew the material going into it, so I really only needed to take the exams. Unfortunately, you need to trudge through the course material in order to get to the exams. So, I more or less did A LOT of clicking "Next" just to get to the exams. I got two of them done in two days, while simultaneously working. If you aren't that familiar with the content, then I can see each module taking a day or so of focus. Since there are several modules per course, it could take a few days.
The TECEP exam was fairly straightforward. Much like taking a CLEP or a DSST, only using a webcam with ProctorU. It was kind of strange giving the proctor a tour of my home office with the webcam, explaining why I have more than one monitor, and putting away my phone and such, but it was fine. Once I got started on the exam, I really didn't interact with the proctor until I was done. Again, I took the Network Technology TECEP, which I really didn't study for, and it took me an hour with going back and triple checking every answer before submitting the exam.
Having already bitten the apple of IT knowledge, I would have to guess and say that if you have an interest in computers, then it shouldn't be any more difficult than studying for any other subject exam that is outside of your sphere of expertise.

Ok, so based on feedback and the eval, I updated my plan and its attached above. Anyone see any problems with this? Specifically, I'm wondering about the Public Relations TECEP for the communications requirement, and Computer Concepts TECEP as a CIS credit.
Just wanting to sharpen the pencil before I go to Advisory with it. Thanks all!

PR can't be used for that. It would go to your Business Electives. Straighterline has a quick course that can be used in that slot. Saylor has a course that works as well, but I found the material and the tests didn't seem to match so I skipped it. The CIS course can be used as a CIS elective (if not used for computer literacy requirement). Systems analysis and design can be filled with CBE from CSU global campus. The SL programming class is 4 CR (lower level).
