I am ready to take the plunge and knock out some classes quickly. Due to my previous grades from a B&M school I figured I need to take all classes and receive a letter grade to hopefully one day get into grad school. However, I am ready to get a degree quickly and then take classes to hopefully prove to grad schools that my previous 1.8 GPA was not who I am today. Besides, I'm not aiming for tmHarvard, just a good grad school with an IT or Cyber degree that will accept me.
So, how does SL work? I read that TESC doesn't accept SL directly that you have to get them transcribed on the ACE site? Since I bombed my first CLEP test, I'm still not even sure how the ACE thing works or where I would even go to get an ACE transcript, can someone pleas help a clueless person out? I apologize in advance if this has been asked a million times, but some of the searches I did came back with nothing.
Edited to add that I have heard you can complete a SL course in a day and that some exams and even finals are open book, is this correct?

and set up an account. Once you finish your class with SL you can send it directly to ACE. Once you have finished all your classes with SL, you can have ACE send the transcript to your college.
As far as the courses through SL, it will depend on you as to how long it takes you to finish a class. A lot of the finals are open book. You can check this page to see which ones are:

I myself have never completed a class in a day and not many do.

You will not get a grade for a straighter line course if the transcripts are transcribed by ACE

I only took one SL course and I did not and could not have finished it in a day. I am not young and don't learn that fast but I did fine with learning for my classes and exams.
That being said the SL course I took was in Criminal Justice and I have very little interest in the subject. I needed to read or at least do a through skim of the chapters to pass the quizzes when I finally got to the final (about 3 weeks of making myself work on the course) I didn't even need to pass the final to pass the course. I think I got like a 65 on the final, but I had an 82 over all. I never did see a grade for the course and both my TESC and ACE transcript just say credit.
What school are you attending now? If it is TESC they only give grades and calculate GPA for courses you take from them, even TECEP exams don't get a grade.

Straighterline was invaluable in helping me earn my degree. I took twenty-six courses in a year and a half - often averaging one week per course.
The beauty of SL is it's flexibility. You can go as fast or as slow through a course as you want to or need to. Once I got into the rhythm of how each course flowed, it went by quickly. But, I also slowed when I needed to. For example, although I generally took a week per course, it took me about a month to do each English Composition course and the Business Communications course - and it was because of the writing assignments and grading.
TESC is one of the original partner colleges that accepts Straighterline courses for credit. I never had a problem with a direct transfer. And I just checked the Straighterline site, and TESC is still listed as one of their partner colleges. So, you are safe on that account.
I used ACE mainly as a backup transcript, in case TESC didn't accept some for credit. But, it was also how I got credit for my ALEKS algebra course, and the six FEMA courses I took. After they went on an ACE transcript, then TESC gave me credit for them.
SL was great in that I was able to fulfill almost all of my General Education requirements with them, plus many of what would fill my Free Electives section of the degree. It took many calls, countless hours of research and such to figure out how and what would fit, but in the end it all worked out.
And if you want a letter grade, you won't get it with transferring courses to TESC. They only give it when you take a course with them. Since at least one course (Capstone) is required anyway before you can graduate, you are covered there. Ironically, if you get an A grade on that one course, your official transcript will show you to be a 4.0 GPA student, since that is the only one that received a letter grade. So, even if you get plenty of B or C grade equivalents on a Straighterline course, it won't affect your final GPA.
