I might have missed it but I don't see anyone talking about this yet.

Today when I took a SL final via ProctorU, they required me to stand up and carry my laptop to a mirror hanging on a wall during the ID confirmation/set-up.

This was a change from the other exams I have taken in the last month or so when I used my cell phone as reflector per their policy. The proctor I had today said this walking to a physical mirror is their new policy. Either method is fine with me, and I actually found it awkward to try to get my phone to reflect into the camera, so the large mirror was quicker. I'm interested to know if anyone else experiences this request as well.

I have read here on the forum in old posts that some proctors are stricter than others, so maybe this was just this individual's following the letter of the law.

Did they say if that was specific to SL or all exams? I didn't have to do that for the TECEP I did earlier this month.

And what happens if your only computer is a desktop with a large screen (like my mac)? They expect you to grab a hanging mirror? Or drag the computer to a mirror? Seems silly.

My spouse took a SL yesterday and she used a hand mirror (a personal with a handle). Makes me wonder if this proctor was messing with you.

The 2 tests I took this month they just said a reflective surface like a CD or mirror. I use my laptop because of this policy so I can carry it into the bathroom. I suppose I could take my desktop webcam and turn it around...but I didn't think the proctor would like a dual screen setup

Ive never had an issue with my dual screen setup and proctoru. Although they do require me to disconnect my TV that I have running through my HDMI. I think they're cool with extended desktops but don't allow duplicated desktops.

Maybe the proctor was just a stricter person -- he also didn't let me use my notes because they weren't on paper (I had them in a word doc which all my other proctors had been fine with on the other 6 SL exams I took). I told him I was okay with that. Really anything I needed to know for the exam was in the textbook, and I haven't used my notes for previous exams, although it was nice to know they were there if I needed them.

But as far as mirrors, he didn't want a reflective surface or handheld mirror. The thing that got me wondering was when he said it was the "new policy".

There website still states "Please bring a reflective surface such as a mirror. This is so you can show the edges of your monitor to your proctor." I have also used dual monitors and have never had any problems.

They are checking to make sure no notes, or answers are in use. Some proctors will require to view the whole testing area to make sure no cheating is going on. Such as hanging answers on the wall out of view of the web cam. Some proctors just do what the policy states while others will go the extra mile to make sure the tester is not cheating so, don't freak out this is normal for ProctorU. They are just making sure the tester is not cheating because there are a few that find some creative way to cheat the system.

I have noticed that each proctor does things slightly different. One proctor had me move my laptop and mirror in all kinds of different ways. While other proctors just have me pick it up and turn around. It might be the individual proctor, maybe they prefer a mirror. I took a TECEP exam end of Sept. and didn't hear anything. I used my compass with no problem.

Ok good to know. It was that "new policy" statement that made me question it.
