Excelsior BS Lib Arts Question? - videogamesrock - 01-10-2016

I was wondering about depths and graduating with honors?

I recently posted about testing out of foreign languages and obtaining 28 credits in Foreign Language. I plan on speaking with EC tomorrow but I'd like a second opinion.

For Depth 1 can it be titled German or does it have to be titled Foreign Language? For Depth 2 is there a list of what is allowed for applied arts and science, or can I propose one?

Since I have enough credits to graduate with possible honors, could I request certain classes where I didn't get an A not to be used?

It's been quite a while since I have looked at the policies. At the time, the depths were just requirements to be met and were not listed on transcripts. (An Area of Focus is on the transcript and did seem to be from a set list.) I'm not sure how the AP depths were determined. There was some sort of rule about requesting to drop courses from your trascript within the first 30 days of enrollment, so they would not be included toward the degree. (Check the Student Policy Handbook.) You'll want to look into that part carefully and ask questions, too.

Thanks, I just spoke with an advisor which didn't really help much at all. I wound up explaining to him that an area of Focus will be on the transcript which he told me it wouldn't. I then explained to him that he should look at page 13 of the catalog which cleared a lot of confusion up for him. What remains a mystery is that he's not sure, if the Foreign Language credits will transfer in as Foreign Language...banghead He thinks if ACE doesn't transcribe them as German that they will simply not satisfy the FL requirement... So I don't know if I can petition them as German or leave it as FL. Either way is fine for me.

The next question continues to be quite ambiguous. I asked if I can create my own Focus or if they have a list of their own? He wasn't sure and put me on hold. I told him, that I'd like to have a Focus if possible for Investment Management, he said they may offer me Administrative Management. Again, not sure if I can propose my own, however in the catalog it says "List areas not exhaustive" on page 13. So am I able to propose my own or not??

His solution which is typical for individuals who really can't answer any questions is, apply, spend $100 and find out for yourself. :imwithstupid:

There are questions we were able to resolve (I hope), is he "feels confident" that I can drop certain courses I do not want to use towards my degree for Honors purposes within the initial evaluation. Big Grin

He also feels confident that enrollment, capstone course, and graduation will only cost me $2150.00. Can anyone confirm this?

I would like to have a Foreign Language and Some sort of Investment/Economics/Not Business Admin. second Focus.

The total cost should be about $3100 (see link). Why is your quote different?

I was not able to choose the title of my area of focus (15LL and 6 UL), which leads me to believe it was from a set list. It was called Biological/Life Science for the credits earned mostly through the Biochemistry GRE.

P.S. It doesn't hurt to ask your advisor lots of questions to make sure you get as close as you can to the degree and transcript you want.

NAP thanks for the update. I thought the quote sounded cheap. I will see if he can email the LA department and get me a comprehensive list.

I graduated in 2014 and both depths are listed on my transcript. I did my in Psych and "Health care" which included my nursing credits. Who is your advisor?

John Meyer is my advisor. From reading the FAQ's only Focus's are now listed and depths are only on the degree plan.

I just received an email from John. He says there is no list for the AOF and that I may propose one.

Cool! That's great news about your AofF.

(If you are already enrolled, maybe he just did not count the enrollment fee in your total cost to finish.)

I'm not enrolled, I'm simply still in the Q&A portion which I can go a little overboard.
