Straighterline Proctored Finals - Aurelius - 04-03-2016
I've completed Accounting I & II except for the final, and am halfway through Macroeconomics. I have high enough grades that the final is a formality. I plan to transfer to TESU so as long as I meet the minimum I'm happy.
I struggle with scheduling a time for the proctored exam in advance with 4 kids and a wife my home schedule is unpredictable. Are there any alternatives to paying for each exam's "take it now" fee? I'd like to schedule them in quick succession (I'll breeze through since the score doesn't matter) but I don't want to have to wait around to start the next either. Any suggestions?

If I recall correctly the "take it now" is't really any more immediate than the regular; I recall a thread complaining about it.

No, it's much more immediate. You wait no more than 20 minutes (usually). There is no other option - if you don't do the "take it now", you have to do the 72-hour option. I paid the extra for every final; it was worth it.

I know it's tough to justify paying extra fees when you've already paid for the course, but the take it now fee is really worth it if you need to just get the thing done and have too complicated a schedule to plan out 72 hours in advance.
I think the thread that was going wasn't about the take it now fee (which I've used several times without issue), but rather a package deal that did some sort of pre-verification (completely separate thing).

I will probably end up just paying the fee, but with a bunch of SL courses planned it sure adds up.

Tip that can save you a lot of money over time is to book your final date once you have purchased a Straighterline Course. We all have busy lives but can secure a day/window that we can count on for exams. On average, I would take 3 finals per block day/window and this allowed me to minimize paying the extra charge. Out of 29 courses, I only ended up having to pay the extra charge 3 times. Key reason for the 3 charges was that I had started to get fatigued on planning the perfect day and wanted to just finish the remaining 3 courses I had open. $24 bucks I will never get back!!!!!
Example:
Purchase 3 Courses April X
Schedule Final: April XX - Time: 9am, 10:30am, 12pm.
There is no charge to move the time or date of an exam so be aggressive with the booking date selected. If you are not ready once the date pops up or the day does not work into your schedule, you can just pick the date and time that will work by calling into ProctorU customer service.

Quick update:
I took my first 4 proctored SL exams today. I took the advice above and scheduled them back-to-back-to-back-to-back. ProctorU wouldn't let me schedule them any closer than 2 hours apart since that was the designated exam length. It took 25 minutes for a proctor to connect to me due to "high volume" which was annoying. I had a high enough score that I was really going to breeze through the finals without studying hard so the results were ok but more than enough to pass (3 classes final scores in the 90s, 1 in the 80s). I finished the first exam early and asked the proctor before disconnecting if they could administer my next test since it wasn't the exam time yet - they said yes! Essentially I finished each earlier than the 2 hour time frame and was able to immediately start the next. Just ask in the chat box and they'll start the next for you. It was a big time saver for me!

Hi. I'm new here, and would like more information about studying for SL exams. There is a lot of info to manuver through on the saylor.org site. It really feels overwhelming in comparison to the text. For the microbiology course, does the material for the quizzes/ tests/exams come from there, or more from the book? Thanks

My recommendation: Go with the textbook, the Saylor info is extraneous material to assist your learning, it's pretty much optional.
